²⁰ Then she said, “I desire one small petition of you; do not ^[a]refuse me.”

And the king said to her, “Ask it, my mother, for I will not refuse you.”

^16 (A)You did not choose Me, but I chose you and ^(B)appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father ^(C)in My name He may give you.

^13 (A)And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be ^(B)glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If you ^[a]ask anything in My name, I will do it.

³ And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”

⁴ Jesus said to her, ^(A)“Woman, ^(B)what does your concern have to do with Me? ^(C)My hour has not yet come.”

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking^(A)

^9 (B)“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; ^(C)seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Greatness Is Serving^(A)

^20 (B)Then the mother of ^(C)Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.

²¹ And He said to her, “What do you wish?”

She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine ^(D)may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”

^19 (A)“Again^[a] I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, ^(B)it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

²⁴ But I say to you ^(A)that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”

³⁵ For I have come to ^(A)‘set^[a] a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; ³⁶ and ^(B)‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
