Death of David

¹⁰ Then David slept with his ancestors and was buried in the city of David.^(A)

²⁹ “Fellow Israelites,^[a] I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.^(A)

³⁶ “For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, died,^[a] was laid beside his ancestors, and experienced corruption,^(A)

²⁸ He died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor, and his son Solomon succeeded him.^(A)

⁴³ Solomon slept with his ancestors and was buried in the city of his father David, and his son Rehoboam succeeded him.^(A)

²¹ Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king sleeps with his ancestors, that my son Solomon and I will be counted offenders.”^(A)

Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom

3 Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt; he took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem.^(A)

⁷ Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, which is now the city of David.

⁷ David resided in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David.
