¹⁰ Then David died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David.

²⁹ “Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us.

³⁶ This is not a reference to David, for after David had done the will of God in his own generation, he died and was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

²⁸ He died at a ripe old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor. Then his son Solomon ruled in his place.

⁴³ When he died, he was buried in the City of David, named for his father. Then his son Rehoboam became the next king.

²¹ If you do not act, my son Solomon and I will be treated as criminals as soon as my lord the king has died.”

Solomon Asks for Wisdom

3 Solomon made an alliance with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and married one of his daughters. He brought her to live in the City of David until he could finish building his palace and the Temple of the Lord and the wall around the city.

⁷ But David captured the fortress of Zion, which is now called the City of David.

⁷ David made the fortress his home, and that is why it is called the City of David.
