The Call of Elisha

¹⁹ So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast ^(A)his cloak upon him.

⁸ Then Elijah ^(A)took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, ^(B)and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.

Jesus Calls the First Disciples

^18 (A)While walking by ^(B)the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ¹⁹ And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you ^(C)fishers of men.”^[a]

¹³ And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. ¹⁴ Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, ^(A)the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.

¹⁴ He said to her, “What is his appearance?” And she said, “An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped ^(A)in a robe.” And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid homage.

⁵ but he will say, ^(A)‘I am no prophet, I am a worker of the soil, for a man sold me in my youth.’^[a]

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, ^(A)“I was^[a] no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but ^(B)I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs.

¹³ And when Elijah heard it, ^(A)he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, ^(B)there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
