⁴⁵ Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain^(A) started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.^(B)

¹⁶ Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah^(A) king of Judah had gone down to see him.

²³ “And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: ‘Dogs^(A) will devour Jezebel by the wall of^[a] Jezreel.’

Naboth’s Vineyard

21 Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth^(A) the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel,^(B) close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

³⁹ When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate^(A) and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”^(B)

⁴⁰ Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley^(C) and slaughtered^(D) there.

¹⁴ They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela^(A) in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that,^(B) God answered prayer^(C) in behalf of the land.^(D)

⁹ He made him king over Gilead,^(A) Ashuri^(B) and Jezreel, and also over Ephraim, Benjamin and all Israel.^(C)

¹⁸ Their territory included:

¹⁶ The people of Joseph replied, “The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the plain have chariots fitted with iron,^(A) both those in Beth Shan^(B) and its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel.”^(C)
