³⁷ Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord,^{[a] (A)}make your face to shine upon ^(B)your sanctuary, which is desolate. ^18 (C)O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see ^(D)our desolations, and ^(E)the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. ^(F)Delay not, ^(G)for your own sake, O my God, because ^(H)your city and ^(I)your people are called by your name.”

¹⁶ And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, ¹⁷ and ^(A)he will go before him ^(B)in the spirit and power of Elijah, ^(C)to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and ^(D)the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, ^(E)to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

^25 (A)I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from ^(B)all your uncleannesses, and ^(C)from all your idols ^(D)I will cleanse you. ²⁶ And I will give you ^(E)a new heart, and ^(F)a new spirit I will put within you. ^(G)And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. ^27 (H)And I will put my Spirit within you, ^(I)and cause you to walk in my statutes and ^(J)be careful to obey my rules.^[a]

²⁴ And you call upon the name of your god, and I will call upon the name of the Lord, and the God who ^(A)answers by fire, he is God.” And all the people answered, “It is well spoken.”

⁸ I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything ^(A)because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence^[a] he will rise and give him whatever he needs.

^5 (A)“Behold, I will send you ^(B)Elijah the prophet ^(C)before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. ⁶ And he will ^(D)turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and ^(E)strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”^[a]

^17 (A)Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear ^(B)all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. ¹⁸ Truly, O Lord, ^(C)the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. ²⁰ So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.”
