¹⁴ For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain^(A) on the land.’”

³⁶ Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them^(A) and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. ³⁷ They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.^{(B) 38} The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children.

¹⁷ “We have here only five loaves^(A) of bread and two fish,” they answered.

¹⁸ “Bring them here to me,” he said. ¹⁹ And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.^(B) Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. ²⁰ They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

7 Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah^[a] of the finest flour will sell for a shekel^[b] and two seahs^[c] of barley for a shekel^(A) at the gate of Samaria.”

Feeding of a Hundred

⁴² A man came from Baal Shalishah,^(A) bringing the man of God twenty loaves^(B) of barley bread^(C) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.

⁴³ “How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.

But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat.^(D) For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.^(E)’” ⁴⁴ Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

¹⁶ and he said, “This is what the Lord says: I will fill this valley with pools of water.

⁶ Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil^(A) on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel.

⁴ You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens^(A) to supply you with food there.”

² Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”

“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”^(A)

³ Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. ⁴ Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

⁵ She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. ⁶ When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”

But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

⁷ She went and told the man of God,^(B) and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
