³⁴ In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua son of Nun.^(A)

²⁶ At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:^(A) “Cursed^(B) before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.^(A)

¹⁴ “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth.^(A) You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise^(B) has been fulfilled; not one has failed.^{(C) 15} But just as all the good things^(D) the Lord your God has promised you have come to you, so he will bring on you all the evil things^(E) he has threatened, until the Lord your God has destroyed you^(F) from this good land he has given you.^(G)
