³⁴ This matter became sin to the house of Jeroboam, so as to cut it off and to destroy it from the face of the earth.^(A)

²⁹ As soon as he was king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam; he left to the house of Jeroboam not one who breathed, until he had destroyed it, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite^(A)— ³⁰ because of the sins of Jeroboam that he committed and that he caused Israel to commit and because of the anger to which he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel.^(B)

¹⁰ therefore I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every male, both bond and free in Israel, and will consume the house of Jeroboam, just as one burns up dung until it is all gone.^(A)

³⁰ And this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one at Bethel and before the other as far as Dan.^[a](A)

²¹ When he had torn Israel from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king. Jeroboam drove Israel from following the Lord and made them commit great sin.^(A)

³¹ But Jehu was not careful to follow the law of the Lord the God of Israel with all his heart; he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam that he caused Israel to commit.^(A)

²⁶ Then Jeroboam said to himself, “Now the kingdom may well revert to the house of David.
