The Message of the Man of God

13 And behold, ^(A)a man of God went from Judah to Bethel ^[a]by the word of the Lord, ^(B)and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

¹⁷ Then he said, “What gravestone is this that I see?”

So the men of the city told him, “It is ^(A)the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

³² Jeroboam ^[a]ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like ^(A)the feast that was in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did at Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. ^(B)And at Bethel he installed the priests of the high places which he had made. ³³ So he made offerings on the altar which he had made at Bethel on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had ^(C)devised in his own heart. And he ^[b]ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and offered sacrifices on the altar and ^(D)burned incense.

¹⁵ For this we say to you ^(A)by the word of the Lord, that ^(B)we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are ^[a]asleep.

^3 (A)“From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, this is the twenty-third year in which the word of the Lord has come to me; and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, ^(B)but you have not listened.

²⁹ And the Chaldeans who fight against this city shall come and ^(A)set fire to this city and burn it, with the houses ^(B)on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger;

¹² Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and ^(A)cry out to the gods to whom they offer incense, but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹⁸ And they withstood King Uzziah, and said to him, “It ^(A)is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, but for the ^(B)priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Get out of the sanctuary, for you have trespassed! You shall have no honor from the Lord God.”

^29 (B)Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, in the prophecy of ^(C)Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of ^(D)Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
