³¹ He made ^[a]shrines on the high places, ^(A)and made priests from every class of people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

^9 (A)Have you not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests, like the peoples of other lands, ^(B)so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of ^(C)things that are not gods?

³² So they feared the Lord, ^(A)and from every class they appointed for themselves priests of the ^[a]high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places.

^32 (A)For the ^[a]saying which he cried out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel, and against all the ^[b]shrines on the high places which are in the cities of ^(B)Samaria, will surely come to pass.”

^33 (C)After this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but again he made priests from every class of people for the high places; whoever wished, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places.

¹⁴ For the Levites left ^(A)their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for ^(B)Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord. ^15 (C)Then he appointed for himself priests for the ^[a]high places, for ^(D)the demons, and ^(E)the calf idols which he had made.

¹⁰ So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, ^(A)and they shall attend to their priesthood; ^(B)but the outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”

⁶ “Now say to the ^(A)rebellious, to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “O house of Israel, ^(B)let Us have no more of all your abominations. ^7 (C)When you brought in ^(D)foreigners, ^(E)uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to defile it—My house—and when you offered ^(F)My food, ^(G)the fat and the blood, then they broke My covenant because of all your abominations. ⁸ And you have not ^(H)kept charge of My holy things, but you have set others to keep charge of My sanctuary for you.”

²⁵ You built your high places ^(A)at the head of every road, and made your beauty to be abhorred. You offered yourself to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your acts of harlotry.
