²⁸ Therefore the king asked advice, ^(A)made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. ^(B)Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!”

¹⁶ So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, ^(A)made for themselves a molded image and two calves, ^(B)made a wooden image and worshiped all the ^(C)host of heaven, ^(D)and served Baal.

²⁹ However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from ^(A)the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.

⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which ^(A)I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ^(B)‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ ”

^4 (A)And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.

Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that ^(B)brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

^15 (A)Then he appointed for himself priests for the ^[a]high places, for ^(B)the demons, and ^(C)the calf idols which he had made.

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of ^[a]corruption; ^(A)for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into ^[b]bondage.
