²⁰ And when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. There was none that followed the house of David but ^(A)the tribe of Judah only.

³² (but ^(A)he shall have one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, ^(B)the city that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

¹³ However, ^(A)I will not tear away all the kingdom, but ^(B)I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem ^(C)that I have chosen.”

¹⁷ But Rehoboam reigned over ^(A)the people of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah.

³⁶ Yet to his son ^(A)I will give one tribe, that David my servant may always have ^(B)a lamp before me in Jerusalem, ^(C)the city where I have chosen to put my name.

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him ^(A)whom the Lord has chosen? There is none like him among all the people.” And all the people shouted, ^(B)“Long live the king!”
