¹⁷ But Rehoboam reigned over ^(A)the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah.

³⁶ And to his son I will give one tribe, that ^(A)My servant David may always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there.

^13 (A)However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give ^(B)one tribe to your son ^(C)for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem ^(D)which I have chosen.”

Priests and Levites Move to Judah^(A)

¹³ And from all their territories the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel took their stand with him. ¹⁴ For the Levites left ^(B)their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for ^(C)Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the Lord. ^15 (D)Then he appointed for himself priests for the ^[a]high places, for ^(E)the demons, and ^(F)the calf idols which he had made. ^16 (G)And ^[b]after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Israel, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel, ^(H)came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers. ¹⁷ So they ^(I)strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.
