²⁰ No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons,^(A) not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. ²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.^{(B) 22} Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?^(C) Are we stronger than he?^(D)

¹¹ These things happened to them as examples^(A) and were written down as warnings for us,^(B) on whom the culmination of the ages has come.^{(C) 12} So, if you think you are standing firm,^(D) be careful that you don’t fall!

²² In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth,^(A) when you were naked and bare,^(B) kicking about in your blood.^(C)

In addition to all your other wickedness, ²⁴ you built a mound for yourself and made a lofty shrine^(E) in every public square.^{(F) 25} At every street corner^(G) you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, spreading your legs with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.^{(H) 26} You engaged in prostitution^(I) with the Egyptians,^(J) your neighbors with large genitals, and aroused my anger^(K) with your increasing promiscuity.^{(L) 27} So I stretched out my hand^(M) against you and reduced your territory; I gave you over^(N) to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines,^(O) who were shocked by your lewd conduct. ²⁸ You engaged in prostitution with the Assyrians^(P) too, because you were insatiable; and even after that, you still were not satisfied.^{(Q) 29} Then you increased your promiscuity to include Babylonia,^[a](R) a land of merchants, but even with this you were not satisfied.^(S)
