^26 (A)Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(B)an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, also ^(C)lifted up his hand against the king.

⁶ Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up ^(A)and rebelled against his lord,

² And as soon as ^(A)Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for ^(B)he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), then Jeroboam returned from^[a] Egypt.

²⁸ The man Jeroboam was very able, and when Solomon saw that the young man was industrious he gave him charge over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph.

¹¹ Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, ^(A)I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.

²¹ That is not true. But a man of ^(A)the hill country of Ephraim, called Sheba the son of Bichri, has lifted up his hand against King David. Give up him alone, and I will withdraw from the city.” And the woman said to Joab, “Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall.”

The Birth of Samuel

1 There was a certain man of ^(A)Ramathaim-zophim of ^(B)the hill country of Ephraim whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, ^(C)an Ephrathite.

¹⁹ When Azubah died, ^(A)Caleb married ^(B)Ephrath, who bore him ^(C)Hur.

²² And I will make your house like ^(A)the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like ^(B)the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the anger to which you have provoked me, and because you ^(C)have made Israel to sin.

³ behold, I will utterly ^(A)sweep away ^(B)Baasha and his house, and I will make your house ^(C)like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
