^13 (A)However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give ^(B)one tribe to your son ^(C)for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem ^(D)which I have chosen.”

²⁰ Now it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come back, they sent for him and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all ^(A)Israel. There was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah ^(B)only.

³² (but he shall have one tribe for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

¹¹ then there will be the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide. There you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, and all your choice offerings which you vow to the Lord.

³² He will be great, ^(A)and will be called the Son of the Highest; and ^(B)the Lord God will give Him the ^(C)throne of His ^(D)father David. ^33 (E)And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

⁵ “But you shall seek the ^(A)place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His ^(B)dwelling^[a] place; and there you shall go.

^[a]THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’

¹⁷ “For thus says the Lord: ‘David shall never ^(B)lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; ¹⁸ nor shall the ^(C)priests, the Levites, lack a man to ^(D)offer burnt offerings before Me, to ^[b]kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’ ”

The Permanence of God’s Covenant

¹⁹ And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁰ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, ²¹ then ^(E)My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers. ²² As ^(F)the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I ^(G)multiply the descendants of David My servant and the ^(H)Levites who minister to Me.’ ”

²³ Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁴ “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have ^(I)despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

²⁵ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If ^(J)My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not ^(K)appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ^26 (L)then I will ^(M)cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’ ”
