¹³ However, ^(A)I will not tear away all the kingdom, but ^(B)I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem ^(C)that I have chosen.”

²⁰ And when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. There was none that followed the house of David but ^(A)the tribe of Judah only.

³² (but ^(A)he shall have one tribe, for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, ^(B)the city that I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

¹¹ then to ^(A)the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, ^(B)your tithes and the contribution that you present, and all your finest vow offerings that you vow to the Lord.

³² He will be great and will be called the Son of ^(A)the Most High. And the Lord God ^(B)will give to him the throne of ^(C)his father David, ³³ and he will reign over the house of Jacob ^(D)forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

⁵ But you shall seek ^(A)the place that the Lord your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation^[a] there. There you shall go,

¹⁵ In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous ^(A)Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ¹⁶ In those days Judah will be saved, ^(B)and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ^(C)‘The Lord is our righteousness.’

¹⁷ “For thus says the Lord: ^(D)David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, ^18 (E)and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices forever.”

¹⁹ The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: ^20 (F)“Thus says the Lord: ^(G)If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, ^(H)so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, ^21 (I)then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers. ²² As ^(J)the host of heaven cannot be numbered and ^(K)the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.”

²³ The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: ²⁴ “Have you not observed that these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight. ²⁵ Thus says the Lord: ^(L)If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth, ²⁶ then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. ^(M)For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.”
