² Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman be sought for my lord the king, and let her wait on the king and be in his service. Let her lie in your arms,^[a] that my lord the king may be warm.”

²¹ And David came to Saul ^(A)and entered his service. And Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor-bearer. ²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.”

¹¹ Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, ^(A)but how can one keep warm alone?

¹¹ My sons, do not now be negligent, ^(A)for the Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him and to be his ministers and make offerings to him.”

³ but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. And he brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children. It used to eat of his morsel and drink from his cup and lie in his arms,^[a] and it was like a daughter to him.

^6 (A)“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or ^(B)the wife you embrace^[a] or your friend ^(C)who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ ^(D)which neither you nor your fathers have known,

⁸ At that time ^(A)the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi ^(B)to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord ^(C)to stand before the Lord to minister to him and ^(D)to bless in his name, to this day.

⁵ And Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be on you! I gave my servant to your embrace, and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked on me with contempt. May ^(A)the Lord judge between you and me!”
