Ang Biblia (1978)
5 Ang sinomang nananampalataya na (A)si Jesus ay siyang Cristo (B)ay ipinanganak ng Dios: at (C)ang bawa't umiibig sa nanganak ay umiibig din naman sa ipinanganak niyaon.
2 Dito'y ating nakikilala na tayo'y nagsisiibig sa mga anak ng Dios, pagka tayo'y nagsisiibig sa Dios at tinutupad natin ang kaniyang mga utos.
3 Sapagka't (D)ito ang pagibig sa Dios, na ating tuparin ang kaniyang mga utos: (E)at ang kaniyang mga utos ay hindi mabibigat.
4 Sapagka't ang sinomang ipinanganak ng Dios ay dumadaig sa sanglibutan: (F)at ito ang pagtatagumpay na dumadaig sa sanglibutan, sa makatuwid ay ang ating pananampalataya.
5 At sino ang dumadaig sa sanglibutan, kundi yaong nananampalatayang (G)si Jesus ay anak ng Dios?
6 Ito yaong naparito sa pamamagitan ng tubig at dugo, sa makatuwid ay si Jesucristo; (H)hindi sa tubig lamang, kundi sa tubig at sa dugo.
7 At ang Espiritu ang nagpapatotoo, (I)sapagka't ang Espiritu ay katotohanan.
8 Sapagka't may tatlong nagpapatotoo, ang Espiritu, ang tubig, at ang dugo: at ang tatlo ay nagkakaisa.
9 (J)Kung tinatanggap natin ang patotoo ng mga tao, ay lalong dakila ang patotoo ng Dios, sapagka't ito ang patotoo ng Dios: (K)sapagka't ito papatotoo tungkol sa kaniyang Anak.
10 Ang nananampalataya sa Anak ng Dios ay (L)may patotoo sa kaniya: ang hindi nananampalataya sa Dios (M)ay ginagawang isang sinungaling ang Dios: sapagka't hindi sumampalataya sa patotoo na ibinigay ng Dios tungkol sa kaniyang Anak.
11 At ito ang patotoo, na tayo'y binigyan ng Dios ng (N)buhay na walang hanggan, (O)at ang buhay na ito ay nasa kaniyang Anak.
12 (P)Ang kinaroroonan ng Anak ay kinaroroonan ng buhay; ang hindi kinaroroonan ng Anak ng Dios ay hindi kinaroroonan ng buhay.
13 (Q)Ang mga bagay na ito ay isinulat ko sa inyo, upang inyong maalaman na kayo'y mayroong buhay na walang hanggan, sa makatuwid ay sa inyong nananampalataya sa pangalan ng Anak ng Dios.
14 At ito ang nasa ating (R)pagkakatiwala sa kaniya, na kung tayo'y humingi ng anomang bagay na (S)ayon sa kaniyang kalooban, ay dinidinig tayo niya:
15 At kung ating nalalaman na tayo'y dinidinig niya sa anomang ating hingin, ay nalalaman natin na nasa atin ang mga kahilingang sa kaniya'y ating hiningi.
16 Kung makita ng sinoman na ang kaniyang kapatid ay nagkakasala ng kasalanang hindi ikamamatay, ay idalangin siya at (T)bibigyan siya ng Dios ng buhay, na ukol sa mga nagkakasala nang hindi ikamamatay. (U)May kasalanang ikamamatay: hindi tungkol dito ang sinasabi ko na idalangin niya.
17 Lahat ng (V)kalikuan ay kasalanan: at may kasalanang hindi ikamamatay.
18 Nalalaman natin na ang sinomang ipinanganak ng Dios ay hindi nagkakasala; (W)datapuwa't ang ipinanganak ng Dios ay nagiingat sa kaniyang sarili, at hindi siya ginagalaw ng masama.
19 Nalalaman natin na tayo'y sa Dios (X)at ang buong sanglibutan ay nakahilig sa masama.
20 At nalalaman natin na naparito ang Anak ng Dios, at tayo'y binigyan ng pagkaunawa, upang ating makilala (Y)siya na totoo, at tayo'y nasa kaniya na totoo, sa makatuwid ay sa kaniyang Anak na si Jesucristo. Ito ang tunay na Dios, at ang (Z)buhay na walang hanggan.
21 Mga anak ko, (AA)mangagingat kayo sa mga diosdiosan.

La fe que vence al mundo
5 Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo, ha nacido de Dios. Todo aquel que ama al que engendró, ama también al que ha sido engendrado por él. 2 En esto sabemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios: en que amamos a Dios y obedecemos sus mandamientos. 3 Pues éste es el amor a Dios: que obedezcamos sus mandamientos.(A) Y sus mandamientos no son difíciles de cumplir. 4 Porque todo el que ha nacido de Dios vence al mundo. Y ésta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo: nuestra fe. 5 ¿Quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?
El testimonio del Espíritu
6 Éste es Jesucristo, que vino mediante agua y sangre; no mediante agua solamente, sino mediante agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio, porque el Espíritu es la verdad. 7 Porque tres son los que dan testimonio [en el cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo; y estos tres son uno. 8 Y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra]:[a] el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre; y estos tres concuerdan. 9 Si aceptamos el testimonio de los hombres, mayor es el testimonio de Dios; porque éste es el testimonio que Dios ha presentado acerca de su Hijo. 10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios, tiene el testimonio en sí mismo; el que no cree a Dios, lo ha hecho mentiroso, porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha presentado acerca de su Hijo. 11 Y éste es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna, y esta vida está en su Hijo.(B) 12 El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida, el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida.
El conocimiento de la vida eterna
13 Les he escrito estas cosas a ustedes, los que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepan que tienen vida eterna. 14 Y ésta es la confianza que tenemos en él: si pedimos algo según su voluntad, él nos oye. 15 Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquiera cosa que pidamos, también sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho. 16 Si alguno ve que su hermano está cometiendo un pecado, que no sea de muerte, debe pedir por él, y Dios le dará vida. Esto vale para los que cometen un pecado que no sea de muerte. Hay pecados de muerte, y yo no digo que se pida por ellos. 17 Toda injusticia es pecado, pero hay pecado que no es de muerte.
18 Sabemos que todo aquel que ha nacido de Dios, no practica el pecado, pues Aquel que fue engendrado por Dios lo protege, y el maligno no lo toca.
19 Sabemos que somos de Dios, y que el mundo entero está bajo el maligno.
20 Pero también sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y nos ha dado entendimiento para conocer al que es verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, en su Hijo Jesucristo. Éste es el verdadero Dios, y la vida eterna. 21 Hijitos, manténganse apartados de los ídolos. Amén.

Faith in the Incarnate Son of God
5 Everyone who believes(A) that Jesus is the Christ(B) is born of God,(C) and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.(D) 2 This is how we know(E) that we love the children of God:(F) by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands.(G) And his commands are not burdensome,(H) 4 for everyone born of God(I) overcomes(J) the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.(K)
6 This is the one who came by water and blood(L)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.(M) 7 For there are three(N) that testify: 8 the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony,(O) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,(P) which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.(Q) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,(R) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,(S) and this life is in his Son.(T) 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.(U)
Concluding Affirmations
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God(V) so that you may know that you have eternal life.(W) 14 This is the confidence(X) we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.(Y) 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know(Z) that we have what we asked of him.(AA)
16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life.(AB) I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.(AC) I am not saying that you should pray about that.(AD) 17 All wrongdoing is sin,(AE) and there is sin that does not lead to death.(AF)
18 We know that anyone born of God(AG) does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one(AH) cannot harm them.(AI) 19 We know that we are children of God,(AJ) and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.(AK) 20 We know also that the Son of God has come(AL) and has given us understanding,(AM) so that we may know him who is true.(AN) And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.(AO)
