4 Mga minamahal, (A)huwag kayong magsipaniwala sa bawa't espiritu, (B)kundi inyong subukin ang mga espiritu, kung sila'y sa Dios: sapagka't (C)maraming nagsilitaw na (D)mga bulaang propeta sa sanglibutan.
2 Dito'y nakikilala ninyo ang Espiritu ng Dios: (E)ang bawa't espiritung nagpapahayag na si Jesucristo ay (F)naparitong nasa laman ay sa Dios:
3 At ang (G)bawa't espiritung hindi ipinahahayag si Jesus, ay hindi sa Dios: at ito ang sa anticristo, na inyong narinig na darating; (H)at ngayo'y nasa sanglibutan na.
4 Kayo'y sa Dios, mumunti kong mga anak, at inyong dinaig sila: sapagka't lalong dakila (I)siyang nasa inyo (J)kay sa nasa sanglibutan.
5 Sila'y sa sanglibutan: kaya't tungkol sa sanglibutan ang sinasalita nila, at sila'y dinidinig (K)ng sanglibutan.
6 Tayo nga'y sa Dios: (L)ang nakakakilala sa Dios ay dumirinig sa atin; ang hindi sa Dios ay hindi dumirinig sa atin. Dito'y ating nakikilala (M)ang espiritu ng katotohanan, at ang espiritu ng kamalian.
7 Mga minamahal, mangagibigan tayo sa isa't isa: sapagka't ang pagibig ay sa Dios; at ang bawa't umiibig ay ipinanganak ng Dios, at nakakakilala sa Dios.
8 (N)Ang hindi umiibig ay hindi nakakakilala sa Dios; sapagka't ang (O)Dios ay pagibig.
9 (P)Dito nahayag ang pagibig ng Dios sa atin, sapagka't sinugo ng (Q)Dios ang kaniyang bugtong na Anak sa sanglibutan (R)upang tayo'y mabuhay sa pamamagitan niya.
10 Narito ang pagibig, (S)hindi sa tayo'y umibig sa Dios, kundi siya ang umibig sa atin, at sinugo ang kaniyang Anak (T)na pangpalubagloob sa ating mga kasalanan.
11 Mga minamahal, (U)kung tayo'y inibig ng Dios ng gayon, ay nararapat na mangagibigan din naman tayo.
12 Sinoman ay hindi nakakita kailan man sa Dios: (V)kung tayo'y nangagiibigan, ang (W)Dios ay nananahan sa atin, at ang kaniyang pagibig ay nagiging sakdal sa atin:
13 Dito'y nakikilala natin na (X)tayo'y nangananahan sa kaniya at siya'y sa atin, sapagka't binigyan niya tayo ng kaniyang Espiritu.
14 At (Y)nakita natin at sinasaksihan na sinugo (Z)ng Ama ang Anak upang maging (AA)Tagapagligtas ng sanglibutan.
15 Ang (AB)sinomang nagpapahayag (AC)na si Jesus ay Anak ng Dios, ang Dios ay nananahan sa kaniya, at siya'y sa Dios.
16 At ating nakilala at ating sinampalatayanan ang pagibig ng Dios sa atin. (AD)Ang Dios ay pagibig; at ang nananahan sa pagibig ay nananahan sa Dios, at ang Dios ay nananahan sa kaniya.
17 Dito'y naging sakdal ang pagibig sa atin, upang tayo'y magkaroon ng pagkakatiwala sa (AE)araw ng paghuhukom; sapagka't kung ano siya, ay gayon din naman tayo sa sanglibutang ito.
18 Walang takot sa pagibig: (AF)kundi ang sakdal na pagibig ay nagpapalayas ng takot, sapagka't ang takot ay may kaparusahan; at ang natatakot ay hindi pa pinasasakdal sa pagibig.
19 (AG)Tayo'y nagsisiibig, sapagka't siya'y unang umibig sa atin.
20 Kung sinasabi ng sinoman, (AH)Ako'y umiibig sa Dios, at napopoot sa kaniyang kapatid, (AI)ay sinungaling; sapagka't ang hindi umiibig sa kaniyang kapatid na kaniyang nakita, ay paanong makaiibig siya sa Dios na hindi niya nakita?
21 At ang utos na itong mula sa kaniya ay nasa atin, na ang umiibig sa Dios ay dapat umibig sa kaniyang kapatid.

El Espíritu de Dios y el espíritu del anticristo
4 Amados, no crean a todo espíritu, sino pongan a prueba los espíritus, para ver si son de Dios. Porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo. 2 Pero ésta es la mejor manera de reconocer el Espíritu de Dios: Todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne, es de Dios; 3 y todo espíritu que no confiesa a Jesús, no es de Dios. Éste es el espíritu del anticristo, el cual ustedes han oído que viene, y que ya está en el mundo. 4 Hijitos, ustedes son de Dios, y han vencido a esos falsos profetas, porque mayor es el que está en ustedes que el que está en el mundo. 5 Ellos son del mundo. Por eso hablan del mundo, y el mundo los oye. 6 Nosotros somos de Dios. El que conoce a Dios, nos oye; el que no es de Dios, no nos oye. Por esto sabemos cuál es el espíritu de la verdad, y cuál es el espíritu del error.
Dios es amor
7 Amados, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios. Todo aquel que ama, ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios. 8 El que no ama, no ha conocido a Dios, porque Dios es amor. 9 En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros: en que Dios envió al mundo a su Hijo unigénito, para que vivamos por él. 10 En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó a nosotros, y envió a su Hijo en propiciación por nuestros pecados. 11 Amados, si Dios nos ha amado así, nosotros también debemos amarnos unos a otros. 12 Nadie ha visto jamás a Dios.(A) Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros, y su amor se perfecciona en nosotros.
13 En esto sabemos que permanecemos en él, y él en nosotros: en que él nos ha dado de su Espíritu. 14 Nosotros hemos visto y damos testimonio de que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo, el Salvador del mundo. 15 Todo aquel que confiese que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. 16 Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros. Dios es amor; y el que permanece en amor, permanece en Dios, y Dios en él. 17 En esto se perfecciona el amor en nosotros: para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio, pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo. 18 En el amor no hay temor, sino que el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor, porque el temor lleva en sí castigo. Por lo tanto, el que teme, no ha sido perfeccionado en el amor. 19 Nosotros lo amamos a él, porque él nos amó primero. 20 Si alguno dice: «Yo amo a Dios», pero odia a su hermano, es un mentiroso. Pues el que no ama a su hermano a quien ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar a Dios, a quien no ha visto? 21 Nosotros recibimos de él este mandamiento: El que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.

4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

On Denying the Incarnation
4 Dear friends,(A) do not believe every spirit,(B) but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.(C) 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh(D) is from God,(E) 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist,(F) which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.(G)
4 You, dear children,(H) are from God and have overcome them,(I) because the one who is in you(J) is greater than the one who is in the world.(K) 5 They are from the world(L) and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us.(M) This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth(N) and the spirit of falsehood.(O)
God’s Love and Ours
7 Dear friends, let us love one another,(P) for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God(Q) and knows God.(R) 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(S) 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son(T) into the world that we might live through him.(U) 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(V) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(W) 11 Dear friends,(X) since God so loved us,(Y) we also ought to love one another.(Z) 12 No one has ever seen God;(AA) but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.(AB)
13 This is how we know(AC) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.(AD) 14 And we have seen and testify(AE) that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.(AF) 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,(AG) God lives in them and they in God.(AH) 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love.(AI) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.(AJ) 17 This is how love is made complete(AK) among us so that we will have confidence(AL) on the day of judgment:(AM) In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,(AN) because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us.(AO) 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister(AP) is a liar.(AQ) For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen,(AR) cannot love God, whom they have not seen.(AS) 21 And he has given us this command:(AT) Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.(AU)
