Overcoming the World
5 (A)Everyone who believes that (B)Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and (C)everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 (D)By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For (E)this is the love of God, that we (F)keep his commandments. And (G)his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For (H)everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—(I)our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes (J)that Jesus is the Son of God?
Testimony Concerning the Son of God
6 This is he who came (K)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And (L)the Spirit is the one who testifies, because (M)the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. 9 (N)If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God (O)that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God (P)has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God (Q)has made him a liar, (R)because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us (S)eternal life, and (T)this life is in his Son. 12 (U)Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
That You May Know
13 I write (V)these things to you who (W)believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is (X)the confidence that we have toward him, that (Y)if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and (Z)God[a] will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. (AA)There is sin that leads to death; (AB)I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 (AC)All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
18 We know that (AD)everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but (AE)he who was born of God (AF)protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are from God, and (AG)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and (AH)has given us understanding, so that we may know (AI)him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and (AJ)eternal life. 21 Little children, (AK)keep yourselves from idols.

This Is Written That You May Know
13 (V)These things I have written to you who (W)believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have (X)eternal life. 14 This is (Y)the confidence which we have [j]before Him, that, (Z)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, (AA)we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
16 If anyone sees his brother or sister [k]committing a sin not leading to death, (AB)he shall ask and [l]God will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. (AC)There is sin leading to death; (AD)I am not saying that he should ask about that. 17 (AE)All unrighteousness is sin, and (AF)there is sin not leading to death.
18 (AG)We know that (AH)no one who has been born of God [m]sins; but He who was born of God (AI)keeps him, and (AJ)the evil one does not (AK)touch him. 19 (AL)We know that (AM)we are of God, and that (AN)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And (AO)we know that (AP)the Son of God has come, and has (AQ)given us understanding so that we may know (AR)Him who is true; and we (AS)are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. (AT)This is the true God and (AU)eternal life.
21 (AV)Little children, guard yourselves from (AW)idols.

La fe que vence al mundo
5 Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo, es nacido de Dios; y todo aquel que ama al que engendró, ama también al que ha sido engendrado por él.
2 En esto conocemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios, cuando amamos a Dios, y guardamos sus mandamientos.
3 Pues éste es el amor de Dios, que guardemos sus mandamientos; y sus mandamientos no son gravosos.
4 Porque todo lo que es nacido de Dios vence al mundo; y ésta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo, nuestra fe.
5 ¿Quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?
El testimonio del Espíritu
6 Éste es Jesucristo, que vino mediante agua y sangre; no mediante agua solamente, sino mediante agua y sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio; porque el Espíritu es la verdad.
7 Porque tres son los que dan testimonio [en el cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo; y estos tres son uno.
8 Y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra][a]: el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre; y estos tres concuerdan.
9 Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres, mayor es el testimonio de Dios; porque éste es el testimonio de Dios, que ha testificado acerca de su Hijo.
10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios, tiene el testimonio en sí mismo; el que no cree a Dios, le ha hecho mentiroso, porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo.
11 Y este es el testimonio: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna; y esta vida está en su Hijo.
12 El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida.
El conocimiento de la vida eterna
13 Estas cosas os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis vida eterna, [y para que sigáis creyendo en el nombre del Hijo de Dios][b].
14 Y esta es la confianza que tenemos ante él, que si pedimos alguna cosa conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye.
15 Y si sabemos que él nos oye en cualquier cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hayamos hecho.
16 Si alguno ve a su hermano cometiendo un pecado que no sea para muerte, pedirá, y Dios le dará vida; esto es para los que cometen pecado que no sea para muerte. Hay pecado para muerte, por el cual yo no digo que se pida.
17 Toda injusticia es pecado, y hay pecado que no es para muerte.
18 Sabemos que todo aquel que ha nacido de Dios, no continúa pecando, sino que Aquel que fue engendrado por Dios le guarda, y el maligno no le toca.
19 Sabemos que somos de Dios, y el mundo entero yace en poder del maligno.
20 Pero sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido, y nos ha dado entendimiento para conocer al que es verdadero; y estamos en el verdadero, en su Hijo Jesucristo. Éste es el verdadero Dios, y la vida eterna.
21 Hijitos, guardaos de los ídolos. Amén.
