¹⁹ We know that we are children of God,^(A) and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.^(B)

On Not Loving the World

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world.^(A) If anyone loves the world, love for the Father^[a] is not in them.^{(B) 16} For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh,^(C) the lust of the eyes,^(D) and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

⁸ See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy,^(A) which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces^[a] of this world^(B) rather than on Christ.

¹³ while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse,^(A) deceiving and being deceived.^{(B) 14} But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,^(C)
