Overcoming the World

5 ^(A)Everyone who believes that ^(B)Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and ^(C)everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. ²^(D)By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. ³For ^(E)this is the love of God, that we ^(F)keep his commandments. And ^(G)his commandments are not burdensome.

Walking in Truth and Love

⁴^(A)I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father. ⁵And now I ask you, dear lady—^(B)not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—^(C)that we love one another. ⁶And ^(D)this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just ^(E)as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.
