1 John 4:15-5:12

¹⁵^(A)Whoever confesses that ^(B)Jesus is the Son of God, God ^(C)remains in him, and he in God. ¹⁶^(D)We have come to know and have believed the love which God has ^[a]^(E)for us. ^(F)God is love, and the one who ^(G)remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. ¹⁷By this, ^(H)love is perfected with us, so that we may have ^(I)confidence in ^(J)the day of judgment; because ^(K)as He is, we also are in this world. ¹⁸There is no fear in love, but ^(L)perfect love drives out fear, because fear ^[b]involves punishment, and the one who fears is not ^(M)perfected in love. ¹⁹^(N)We love, because He first loved us. ²⁰^(O)If someone says, “I love God,” and yet he ^(P)hates his brother or sister, he is a ^(Q)liar; for ^(R)the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, ^(S)cannot love God, whom he has not seen. ²¹And ^(T)this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God ^(U)must also love his brother and sister.

Overcoming the World

5 ^(V)Everyone who believes that Jesus is the ^[c]Christ has been ^(W)born of God, and everyone who loves the ^[d]Father ^(X)loves the child born of Him. ²^(Y)By this we know that ^(Z)we love the children of God, when we love God and ^[e]follow His commandments. ³For ^(AA)this is the love of God, that we ^(AB)keep His commandments; and ^(AC)His commandments are not burdensome. ⁴For ^[f]whoever has been ^(AD)born of God ^(AE)overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.

⁵Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who ^(AF)believes that Jesus is the Son of God? ⁶This is the One who came ^(AG)by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not ^[g]with the water only, but ^[h]with the water and ^[i]with the blood. It is ^(AH)the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. ⁷For there are ^(AI)three that testify: ⁸^[j]the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are ^[k]in agreement. ⁹^(AJ)If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that ^(AK)He has testified concerning His Son. ¹⁰The one who believes in the Son of God ^(AL)has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has ^(AM)made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. ¹¹And the testimony is this, that God has given us ^(AN)eternal life, and ^(AO)this life is in His Son. ¹²^(AP)The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
