2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Christ Is Our Advocate
2 (A)My little children, I am (B)writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, (C)we have an [a](D)Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is (E)the [b]propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also (F)for those of the whole world.
3 (G)By this we know that we have come to (H)know Him, if we (I)keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “(J)I have come to (K)know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a (L)liar, and (M)the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever (N)keeps His word, in him the (O)love of God has truly been perfected. (P)By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he (Q)abides in Him (R)ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
7 (S)Beloved, I am (T)not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had (U)from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 [c]On the other hand, I am writing (V)a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because (W)the darkness is passing away and (X)the true Light is already shining. 9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet (Y)hates his (Z)brother is in the darkness until now. 10 (AA)The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who (AB)hates his brother is in the darkness and (AC)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has (AD)blinded his eyes.
12 I am writing to you, (AE)little children, because (AF)your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him (AG)who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because (AH)you have overcome (AI)the evil one. I have written to you, children, because (AJ)you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him (AK)who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are (AL)strong, and the (AM)word of God abides in you, and (AN)you have overcome the evil one.
Do Not Love the World
15 Do not love (AO)the world nor the things in the world. (AP)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, (AQ)the lust of the flesh and (AR)the lust of the eyes and (AS)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 (AT)The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who (AU)does the will of God lives forever.
18 Children, (AV)it is the last hour; and just as you heard that (AW)antichrist is coming, (AX)even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 (AY)They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, (AZ)so that [d]it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 [e]But you have an (BA)anointing from (BB)the Holy One, and (BC)you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but (BD)because you do know it, and [f]because no lie is (BE)of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but (BF)the one who denies that Jesus is the [g]Christ? This is (BG)the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 (BH)Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard (BI)from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also (BJ)will abide in the Son and in the Father.
The Promise Is Eternal Life
25 (BK)This is the promise which He Himself [h]made to us: eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to (BL)deceive you. 27 As for you, the (BM)anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing (BN)teaches you about all things, and is (BO)true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, [i]you abide in Him.
28 Now, (BP)little children, abide in Him, so that when He (BQ)appears, we may have (BR)confidence and (BS)not [j]shrink away from Him in shame [k]at His (BT)coming. 29 If you know that (BU)He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness (BV)is [l]born of Him.

2 (A) Mina barn, detta skriver jag till er för att ni inte ska synda. Men om någon syndar, har vi en som för vår talan[a] inför Fadern: Jesus Kristus, den rättfärdige[b]. 2 (B) Han är försoningen för våra synder, och inte bara för våra utan också för hela världens.
3 (C) Vi vet att vi har lärt känna honom när vi håller fast vid hans bud. 4 (D) Den som säger: "Jag känner honom" och inte håller fast vid hans bud, han är en lögnare och sanningen finns inte i honom. 5 (E) Men hos den som håller fast vid hans ord har Guds kärlek verkligen nått sitt mål. Så vet vi att vi är i honom. 6 (F) Den som säger sig förbli i honom är skyldig att själv leva så som han levde.
7 (G) Mina älskade, det jag skriver till er är inte ett nytt bud, utan ett gammalt bud som ni har haft från början. Detta gamla bud är ordet som ni har hört. 8 (H) Ändå är det ett nytt bud jag skriver till er. Det förverkligas i honom och i er, eftersom mörkret viker och det sanna ljuset redan lyser. 9 (I) Den som säger sig vara i ljuset men hatar sin broder är fortfarande kvar i mörkret. 10 (J) Den som älskar sin broder förblir i ljuset, och det finns inget i honom[c] som leder till fall. 11 (K) Men den som hatar sin broder är i mörkret och vandrar i mörkret. Han vet inte vart han går, för mörkret har förblindat hans ögon.
12 (L) Jag skriver till er, barn: era synder är förlåtna för hans namns skull. 13 (M) Jag skriver till er, fäder: ni har lärt känna honom som är från begynnelsen. Jag skriver till er unga: ni har besegrat den onde.
14 (N) Jag har skrivit till er, barn: ni har lärt känna Fadern. Jag har skrivit till er, fäder: ni har lärt känna honom som är från begynnelsen. Jag har skrivit till er unga: ni är starka, och Guds ord förblir i er och ni har besegrat den onde.
Älska inte världen
15 (O) Älska inte världen, inte heller det som är i världen. Om någon älskar världen finns inte Faderns kärlek i honom. 16 (P) Allt som är i världen – köttets begär och ögonens begär och högmod över livets goda – det kommer inte från Fadern utan från världen. 17 (Q) Och världen och dess begär förgår, men den som gör Guds vilja består för evigt.
Antikrist och antikristerna
18 (R) Kära barn, den sista tiden är här. Och liksom ni har hört att Antikrist ska komma, så har redan nu många antikrister trätt fram. Av det förstår vi att den sista tiden är här.[d] 19 (S) De har gått ut från oss, men de hörde aldrig till oss. Hade de hört till oss skulle de ha blivit kvar hos oss. Men det skulle visa sig att alla inte hör till oss.
20 (T) Ni har en smörjelse[e] från den Helige och ni har alla kunskap[f]. 21 (U) Jag har inte skrivit till er för att[g] ni inte känner sanningen, utan för att ni känner den och vet att[h] ingen lögn kommer från sanningen.
22 (V) Vem är lögnaren om inte den som förnekar att Jesus är Kristus? Den är Antikrist som förnekar Fadern och Sonen. 23 (W) Den som förnekar Sonen har inte heller Fadern. Den som bekänner Sonen har också Fadern. 24 (X) Låt det ni har hört från början förbli i er. Om det ni hört från början förblir i er, kommer också ni att förbli i Sonen och i Fadern. 25 (Y) Och detta är vad han själv har lovat oss: det eviga livet.
26 Detta har jag skrivit till er med tanke på dem som försöker förvilla er. 27 (Z) Men smörjelsen som ni har fått av honom förblir i er, och ni behöver inte någon som undervisar er. Hans smörjelse undervisar er om allt, och den är sanning och inte lögn. Förbli i honom, så som den har lärt er.
28 (AA) Ja, kära barn, förbli nu i honom, så att vi kan ha frimodighet när han uppenbarar sig och inte behöver stå där med skam inför honom när han kommer. 29 (AB) Om ni vet att han är rättfärdig, då inser ni också att var och en som gör det som är rätt är född av honom.

Cristo, nuestro abogado
2 Hijitos míos(A), os escribo estas cosas para que no pequéis(B). Y si alguno peca, Abogado[a] tenemos(C) para con el Padre, a Jesucristo el justo(D). 2 Él mismo es la propiciación[b] por nuestros pecados(E), y no solo por los nuestros, sino también por los del mundo entero(F). 3 Y en esto sabemos(G) que hemos llegado a conocerle(H): si guardamos sus mandamientos(I). 4 El que dice: Yo he llegado(J) a conocerle(K), y no guarda sus mandamientos, es un mentiroso(L) y la verdad no está en él(M); 5 pero el que guarda su palabra(N), en él verdaderamente el amor de Dios se ha perfeccionado(O). En esto sabemos que estamos en Él(P). 6 El que dice que permanece en Él(Q), debe[c] andar como Él anduvo(R).
Mandamiento sobre el amor fraternal
7 Amados(S), no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo(T), sino un mandamiento antiguo, que habéis tenido[d] desde el principio(U); el mandamiento antiguo es la palabra que habéis oído. 8 Por otra parte[e], os escribo un mandamiento nuevo(V), el cual es verdadero en Él y en vosotros, porque las tinieblas van pasando(W), y la luz verdadera ya está alumbrando(X). 9 El que dice que está en la luz, y aborrece(Y) a su hermano(Z), está aún[f] en tinieblas. 10 El que ama a su hermano, permanece en la luz y no hay causa de tropiezo en él(AA). 11 Pero el que aborrece a su hermano, está en tinieblas(AB) y anda en tinieblas(AC), y no sabe adónde va, porque las tinieblas han cegado sus ojos(AD).
No améis lo que está en el mundo
12 Os escribo a vosotros, hijos[g](AE), porque vuestros pecados os han sido perdonados por su nombre(AF). 13 Os escribo a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio(AG). Os escribo a vosotros, jóvenes, porque habéis vencido(AH) al maligno(AI). Os he escrito a vosotros, niños, porque conocéis al Padre(AJ). 14 Os he escrito a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio(AK). Os he escrito a vosotros, jóvenes, porque sois fuertes(AL) y la palabra de Dios permanece en vosotros(AM) y habéis vencido al maligno(AN). 15 No améis al mundo(AO) ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Advertencias contra el anticristo
18 Hijitos[i], es la última hora(AU), y así como oísteis que el anticristo viene(AV), también ahora han surgido muchos anticristos(AW); por eso sabemos que es la última hora. 19 Salieron de nosotros(AX), pero en realidad no eran de nosotros, porque si hubieran sido de nosotros, habrían permanecido con nosotros; pero salieron, a fin de que se manifestara[j] que no todos son[k] de nosotros(AY). 20 Pero[l] vosotros tenéis unción(AZ) del Santo(BA), y todos vosotros lo sabéis[m](BB). 21 No os he escrito porque ignoréis la verdad, sino porque la conocéis(BC) y porque[n] ninguna mentira procede de la verdad(BD). 22 ¿Quién es el mentiroso, sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo[o](BE)? Este es el anticristo(BF), el que niega al Padre y al Hijo. 23 Todo aquel que niega al Hijo tampoco tiene al Padre(BG); el que confiesa al Hijo tiene también al Padre. 24 En cuanto a vosotros, que permanezca en vosotros lo que oísteis desde el principio(BH).
