8 And yet I do write a new commandment to you, which holds true in him and among you,[a] for the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.(A) 9 Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother, is still in the darkness.(B) 10 Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him to cause a fall.(C) 11 Whoever hates his brother is in darkness; he walks in darkness and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

9 If we say that we are in the light, yet hate others, we are in the darkness to this very hour. 10 If we love others, we live in the light, and so there is nothing in us that will cause someone else[a] to sin. 11 But if we hate others, we are in the darkness; we walk in it and do not know where we are going, because the darkness has made us blind.
