1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Ang Salita ng Buhay
1 Yaong(A) buhat sa pasimula, na aming narinig, nakita ng aming mga mata, aming napagmasdan, at nahipo ng aming mga kamay, tungkol sa salita ng buhay—
2 at(B) ang buhay na ito ay nahayag, aming nakita, aming pinatototohanan, at sa inyo'y aming ibinabalita ang buhay na walang hanggan, na kasama ng Ama at sa amin ay ipinahayag.
3 Ipinahahayag namin sa inyo yaong aming nakita at narinig upang kayo rin naman ay magkaroon ng pakikisama sa amin; at tunay na ang ating pakikisama ay sa Ama at sa kanyang Anak na si Jesu-Cristo.
4 Isinusulat namin ang mga bagay na ito upang ang aming[a] kagalakan ay malubos.
Ang Diyos ay Liwanag
5 At ito ang mensahe na aming narinig sa kanya at sa inyo'y aming ipinahahayag, na ang Diyos ay liwanag, at sa kanya'y walang anumang kadiliman.
6 Kung sinasabi nating tayo'y may pakikisama sa kanya, at tayo'y lumalakad sa kadiliman, nagsisinungaling tayo at hindi natin ginagawa ang katotohanan.
7 Ngunit kung tayo'y lumalakad sa liwanag, na tulad niya na nasa liwanag, may pakikisama tayo sa isa't isa, at ang dugo ni Jesus na kanyang Anak ang lumilinis sa atin sa lahat ng kasalanan.
8 Kung sinasabi nating tayo'y walang kasalanan, dinadaya natin ang ating sarili at ang katotohanan ay wala sa atin.
9 Kung ipinahahayag natin ang ating mga kasalanan, siya ay tapat at banal na magpapatawad sa ating mga kasalanan at tayo'y lilinisin sa lahat ng kalikuan.
10 Kung sinasabi nating tayo'y hindi nagkasala, ginagawa natin siyang sinungaling at ang kanyang salita ay wala sa atin.

The Incarnation of the Word of Life
1 That which was from the beginning,(A) which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,(B) which we have looked at and our hands have touched(C)—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared;(D) we have seen it and testify to it,(E) and we proclaim to you the eternal life,(F) which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard,(G) so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.(H) 4 We write this(I) to make our[a] joy complete.(J)
Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness
5 This is the message we have heard(K) from him and declare to you: God is light;(L) in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness,(M) we lie and do not live out the truth.(N) 7 But if we walk in the light,(O) as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.(P)
8 If we claim to be without sin,(Q) we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.(R) 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins(S) and purify us from all unrighteousness.(T) 10 If we claim we have not sinned,(U) we make him out to be a liar(V) and his word is not in us.(W)
