⁹ We accept human testimony,^(A) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,^(B) which he has given about his Son.

¹⁶ As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened,^(A) and he saw the Spirit of God^(B) descending like a dove and alighting on him. ¹⁷ And a voice from heaven^(C) said, “This is my Son,^(D) whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”^(E)

³¹ For he has set a day when he will judge^(A) the world with justice^(B) by the man he has appointed.^(C) He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”^(D)

⁵ While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.^(A) Listen to him!”^(B)

¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.^(A) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,^(B) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

⁴ God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles,^(A) and by gifts of the Holy Spirit^(B) distributed according to his will.^(C)

³⁸ But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”^(A)

¹⁷ In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true.^{(A) 18} I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”^(B)

¹⁹ Then they asked him, “Where is your father?”

“You do not know me or my Father,”^(C) Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”^(D)

³² He testifies to what he has seen and heard,^(A) but no one accepts his testimony.^{(B) 33} Whoever has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.
