¹⁸ We know that ^(A)everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but ^(B)he who was born of God ^(C)protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

^9 (A)No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's^[a] seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.

^21 (A)keep yourselves in the love of God, ^(B)waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

⁴ For ^(A)everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—^(B)our faith.

²⁷ Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: ^(A)to visit ^(B)orphans and widows in their affliction, and ^(C)to keep oneself ^(D)unstained from the world.

Overcoming the World

5 ^(A)Everyone who believes that ^(B)Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and ^(C)everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.

⁸ “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you ^(A)an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. ⁹ Behold, I will make those of ^(B)the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, ^(C)I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that ^(D)I have loved you. ^10 (E)Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try ^(F)those who dwell on the earth.

^23 (A)since you have been born again, ^(B)not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through ^(C)the living and abiding word of God;
