¹³ This is how we know^(A) that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.^(B)

²⁰ built^(A) on the foundation^(B) of the apostles and prophets,^(C) with Christ Jesus himself^(D) as the chief cornerstone.^{(E) 21} In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple^(F) in the Lord. ²² And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.^(G)

²⁴ The one who keeps God’s commands^(A) lives in him,^(B) and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.^(C)

¹⁶ Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple^(A) and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?^{(B) 17} If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.

²² But the fruit^(A) of the Spirit is love,^(B) joy, peace,^(C) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control.^(D) Against such things there is no law.^{(E) 24} Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh^(F) with its passions and desires.^{(G) 25} Since we live by the Spirit,^(H) let us keep in step with the Spirit.

¹² What we have received is not the spirit^(A) of the world,^(B) but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

¹⁵ If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,^(A) God lives in them and they in God.^{(B) 16} And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love.^(C) Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.^(D)

⁹ You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh^(A) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.^(B) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,^(C) they do not belong to Christ. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you,^(D) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life^[a] because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead^(E) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies^(F) because of^[b] his Spirit who lives in you.

¹² Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.^{(G) 13} For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;^(H) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,^(I) you will live.^(J)

¹⁴ For those who are led by the Spirit of God^(K) are the children of God.^{(L) 15} The Spirit^(M) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;^(N) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.^[c] And by him we cry, “Abba,^[d] Father.”^{(O) 16} The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit^(P) that we are God’s children.^{(Q) 17} Now if we are children, then we are heirs^(R)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings^(S) in order that we may also share in his glory.^(T)

²⁰ On that day^(A) you will realize that I am in my Father,^(B) and you are in me, and I am in you.^{(C) 21} Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.^(D) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,^(E) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

²² Then Judas^(F) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”^(G)

²³ Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.^(H) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.^{(I) 24} Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.^(J)

²⁵ “All this I have spoken while still with you. ²⁶ But the Advocate,^(K) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,^(L) will teach you all things^(M) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.^(N)
