5 Fiii lui Ruben, întâiul născut al lui Israel – căci el era întâiul(A) născut, dar, pentru că a spurcat(B) patul tatălui său, dreptul(C) lui de întâi născut a fost dat fiilor lui Iosif, fiul lui Israel. Totuşi Iosif n-a fost scris în spiţele de neam ca întâi născut. 2 Iuda(D) a fost în adevăr puternic(E) printre fraţii săi şi din el a ieşit un domnitor, dar dreptul de întâi născut este al lui Iosif. 3 Fiii lui Ruben(F), întâiul născut al lui Israel: Enoh, Palu, Heţron şi Carmi.

5 The sons of Reuben(A) the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed,(B) his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph(C) son of Israel;(D) so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,(E) 2 and though Judah(F) was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler(G) came from him, the rights of the firstborn(H) belonged to Joseph)— 3 the sons of Reuben(I) the firstborn of Israel:

5 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel—(B)he was indeed the firstborn, but because he (C)defiled his father’s bed, (D)his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright; 2 yet (E)Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came a (F)ruler, although [a]the birthright was Joseph’s— 3 the sons of (G)Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
