4 (A)I figli di Giuda furono: Perez, Chesron, Carmi, Cur e Sobal.
2 Reaia, figlio di Sobal, generò Iaat; Iaat generò Aumai e Laad. Queste sono le famiglie dei Soratei.
3 Questi furono i discendenti del padre di Etam: Izreel, Isma e Idbas; la loro sorella si chiamava Aselelponi. 4 Penuel fu padre di Ghedor; ed Ezer, padre di Cusa. Questi sono i figli di Cur, primogenito di Efrata, padre di Betlemme.
5 Asur, padre di Tecoa, ebbe due mogli: Chelea e Naara. 6 Naara gli partorì Auzam, Chefer, Temeni e Aastari. Questi sono i figli di Naara. 7 I figli di Chelea furono: Seret, Iesocar ed Etnan.
8 Cos generò Anub, Assobeba e le famiglie di Aarel, figlio di Arum. 9 Iabes fu più onorato dei suoi fratelli; sua madre lo aveva chiamato Iabes, perché diceva: «L’ho partorito con dolore». 10 Iabes invocò il Dio d’Israele, dicendo: «Benedicimi, ti prego; allarga i miei confini; sia la tua mano con me e preservami dal male in modo che io non debba soffrire!» E Dio gli concesse quanto aveva chiesto.
11 Chelub, fratello di Suca, generò Meir, che fu padre di Eston. 12 Eston generò Bet-Rafa, Pasea e Teinna, padre di Ir-Naas. Questa è la gente di Reca.
13 I figli di Chenaz furono: Otniel e Seraia. I figli di Otniel furono: Catat e Meonotai. 14 Meonotai generò Ofra. Seraia generò Ioab, padre degli abitanti della valle degli artigiani, perché erano artigiani.
15 I figli di Caleb, figlio di Gefunne, furono: Iru, Ela e Naam. Il figlio di Ela fu Chenaz. 16 I figli di Ieallelel furono: Zif, Zifa, Tiria e Asareel.
17 I figli di Esdra furono: Ieter, Mered, Efer e Ialon. La moglie di Mered partorì Miriam, Sammai e Isba, padre di Estemoa. 18 L’altra sua moglie, la Giudea, partorì Iered, padre di Ghedor, Eber, padre di Soco e Iecutiel, padre di Zanoa. Quelli nominati prima erano figli di Bitia, figlia del faraone, che Mered aveva presa in moglie.
19 I figli della moglie di Odiia, sorella di Naam, furono: il padre di Cheila, il Garmeo, ed Estemoa, il Maacateo.
20 I figli di Simon furono: Amnon, Rinna, Benanan e Tilon. I figli di Isi furono: Zozet e Ben-Zoet.
21 I figli di Sela, figlio di Giuda, furono: Er, padre di Leca; Lada, padre di Maresa; le famiglie della casa dove si lavora il bisso di Bet-Asbea; 22 Iochim e la gente di Cozeba; Ioas e Saraf, che dominarono Moab, e Iasubi-Leem. Ma queste sono cose d’antica data. 23 Erano dei vasai e stavano a Netaim e a Ghedera; stavano là presso il re per lavorare al suo servizio.

24 (B)I figli di Simeone furono: Nemuel, Iamin, Iarib, Zera, Saul, 25 che ebbe per figlio Sallum, che ebbe per figlio Mibsan, che ebbe per figlio Misma. 26 Il figlio di Misma fu Ammuel, che ebbe per figlio Zaccur, che ebbe per figlio Simei. 27 Simei ebbe sedici figli e sei figlie; ma i suoi fratelli non ebbero molti figli, e le loro famiglie non si moltiplicarono quanto quelle dei figli di Giuda. 28 Si stabilirono a Beer-Sceba, a Molada, ad Asar-Sual, 29 a Bila, a Esem, a Tolad, 30 a Betuel, a Corma, a Siclag, 31 a Bet-Marcabot, ad Asar-Susim, a Bet-Biri e a Saaraim. Queste furono le loro città, fino al regno di Davide. 32 Avevano pure i villaggi di Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen e Asan – cinque città – 33 e tutti i villaggi che erano nei dintorni di quelle città, fino a Baal. Queste furono le loro sedi e le loro genealogie.
34 Mesobab, Iamlec, Iosa, figlio di Amasia, 35 Ioel, Ieu, figlio di Iosibia, figlio di Seraia, figlio di Asiel, 36 Elioenai, Iaacoba, Iesoaia, Asaia, Adiel, Iesimiel, Benaia, 37 Ziza, figlio di Sifi, figlio di Allon, figlio di Iedaia, figlio di Simri, figlio di Semaia; 38 questi uomini, enumerati per nome, erano capi nelle loro famiglie e le loro case patriarcali si accrebbero molto. 39 Andarono dal lato di Ghedor, fino a oriente della valle, in cerca di pascoli per il loro bestiame. 40 Trovarono pascoli grassi e buoni e un paese vasto, quieto e tranquillo; poiché quelli che lo abitavano prima erano discendenti di Cam. 41 Questi uomini, ricordati più sopra per nome, giunsero al tempo di Ezechia, re di Giuda; fecero man bassa sulle loro tende e sui Maoniti che si trovavano là e li votarono allo sterminio, fino a oggi; poi si stabilirono laggiù al posto di quelli, perché c’erano pascoli per il bestiame.
42 Una parte di questi figli di Simeone, cinquecento uomini, andarono verso il monte Seir, sotto la guida di Pelatia, Nearia, Refaia ed Uziel, figli di Isi; 43 distrussero gli Amalechiti superstiti e si stabilirono in quel luogo, dove sono rimasti fino a oggi.

4 The sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron and Carmi and Hur and Shobal.
2 And Reaiah, the son of Shobal, begat Jahath. And Jahath begat Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.
3 And these were from the father of Etam: Jezreel and Ishma and Idbash. And the name of their sister was Hazelelponi.
4 And Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the eldest son of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.
5 But Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
6 And Naarah bore him Ahuzzam and Hepher and Temeni and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.
7 And the sons of Helah were Zereth, Zohar and Ethnan.
8 Also, Koz begat Anub and Zobebah and the families of Aharhel, the son of Harum.
9 But Jabez was more honorable than his brethren. And his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in sorrow.”
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, and that Your Hand were with me, and that You would deliver me from evil, so that I am not hurt!” And God granted the thing that he asked.
11 And Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, begat Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
12 And Eshton begat Beth-Rapha and Paseah and Tehinnah, the father of the city of Ir-Nahash. These are the men of Rechah.
13 And the sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. And the son of Othniel was Hathath.
14 And Meonothai begat Ophrah. And Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of craftsmen. For they were craftsmen.
15 And the sons of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, were Iru, Elah and Naam. And the son of Elah was Kenaz.
16 And the sons of Jehallelel were Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel.
17 And the sons of Ezrah were Jether and Mered and Epher and Jalon. And he begat Miriam and Shammai and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.
18 Also his wife, Jehudijah, bore Jered, the father of Gedor, and Heber, the father of Sochoh, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took.
19 And the sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, the father of Keilah, were the Garmites and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.
20 And the sons of Shimon were Amnon and Rinnah, Ben-Hanan and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-Zoheth.
21 The sons of Shelah, the son of Judah, were Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, and the families of the households of those who worked fine linen in the House of Ashbea
22 and Jokim and the men of Chozeba and Joash and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubi-Lehem. These are also ancient things.
23 These were gatekeepers and dwelt among plants and hedges. They dwelt there with the king for his work.
24 The sons of Simeon were Nemuel and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah and Shaul,
25 whose son was Shallum. And his son was Mibsam. And his son was Mishma.
26 And the sons of Mishma were Hamuel his son, Zacchur his son, and Shimei his son.
27 And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters. But his brethren did not have many children, nor was any of their family like the children of Judah in multitude.
28 And they dwelt at Beersheba, and at Moladah, and at Hazar Shual,
29 and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad,
30 and at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,
31 and at Beth Marcaboth, and at Hazar Susim, at Beth Biri, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David.
32 And their towns were Etam and Ain, Rimmon and Tochen and Ashan (five cities)
33 and all their towns that were all around these cities, up to Baal. These are their habitations and the declaration of their genealogy.
34 And Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,
35 and Joel and Jehu, the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,
36 and Elioenai and Jaakobah and Jeshohaiah and Asaiah and Adiel and Jesimiel and Benaiah
37 and Ziza, the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah,
38 these were famous princes in their families and increased greatly their father’s Houses.
39 And they went to the entrance of Gedor, to the eastern side of the valley, to seek pasture for their sheep.
40 And they found abundant, rich pasture with and a wide, quiet and fruitful land. For the Hamites had dwelt there before.
41 And those described here by name came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and struck their tents, and the inhabitants who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and dwelt in their space, because there was pasture there for their sheep.
42 And besides these, five hundred men of the sons of Simeon went to Mount Seir. And Pelatiah and Neariah and Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, were their captains.
43 And they struck the rest of Amalek who had escaped. And they dwell there to this day.
