Le guerre di Davide
18 In seguito Davide sconfisse i Filistei, li piegò e tolse loro Gat con le dipendenze. 2 Quindi sconfisse i Moabiti, che divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide. 3 Davide sconfisse anche Hadad-Ezer, re di Zoba, verso Amat, nella sua marcia verso il fiume Eufrate per stabilirvi il suo dominio. 4 Davide gli prese mille carri, settemila cavalieri e ventimila fanti. Davide poi fece tagliare i garretti a tutti i cavalli, risparmiandone un centinaio.
5 Gli Aramei di Damasco andarono in aiuto di Hadad-Ezer, re di Zoba, ma Davide ne uccise ventiduemila. 6 Davide mise guarnigioni in Aram di Damasco; gli Aramei divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide. Il Signore rese vittorioso Davide in ogni sua impresa. 7 Davide prese gli scudi d'oro agli ufficiali di Hadad-Ezer e li portò in Gerusalemme. 8 Da Tibcat e da Cun, città di Hadad-Ezer, Davide asportò una grande quantità di bronzo, con cui Salomone costruì il bacino di bronzo, le colonne e i vari arredi di bronzo.
9 Tou re di Amat, saputo che Davide aveva sconfitto tutto l'esercito di Hadad-Ezer re di Zoba, 10 mandò Adoram suo figlio per salutare il re Davide e per felicitarsi con lui d'avere assalito e vinto Hadad-Ezer, poiché Tou era sempre in guerra con Hadad-Ezer; Adoram portava con sé oggetti d'oro, d'argento e di bronzo. 11 Anche tali oggetti il re Davide li consacrò al Signore insieme con l'argento e l'oro che aveva preso da tutti gli altri popoli, ossia da Edom, da Moab, dagli Ammoniti, dai Filistei e dagli Amaleciti.
12 Abisai figlio di Zeruià sconfisse nella Valle del sale diciottomila Idumei. 13 Pose guarnigioni in Edom; tutti gli Idumei divennero sudditi di Davide. Il Signore rendeva vittorioso Davide in ogni sua impresa.
L'amministrazione del regno
14 Davide regnò su tutto Israele e rese giustizia con retti giudizi a tutto il popolo.
15 Ioab figlio di Zeruià comandava l'esercito; Giòsafat figlio di Achilud era archivista. 16 Zadòk figlio di Achitùb e Abimèlech figlio di Ebiatàr erano sacerdoti; Savsa era scriba. 17 Benaià figli di Ioiadà comandava i Cretei e i Peletei; i figli di Davide erano i primi al fianco del re.

18 (A)Dopo questi fatti Davide sconfisse i Filistei, li umiliò e tolse di mano ai Filistei Gat e i villaggi vicini.
2 Sconfisse pure i Moabiti, e i Moabiti divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide.
3 Davide sconfisse anche Adadezer, re di Soba, verso Camat, mentre egli andava a stabilire il suo dominio sul fiume Eufrate. 4 Davide gli prese mille carri, settemila cavalieri e ventimila fanti; tagliò i garretti a tutti i cavalli da tiro, ma riservò dei cavalli per cento carri.
5 Quando i Siri di Damasco vennero per soccorrere Adadezer re di Soba, Davide ne uccise ventiduemila. 6 Poi Davide mise delle guarnigioni nella Siria di Damasco, e i Siri divennero sudditi e tributari di Davide; e il Signore lo rendeva vittorioso dovunque egli andava.
7 Davide tolse ai servi di Adadezer i loro scudi d’oro e li portò a Gerusalemme. 8 Davide prese anche una grande quantità di bronzo a Tibat e a Cun, città di Adadezer. Salomone se ne servì per fare il Mare di bronzo, le colonne e gli utensili di bronzo.
9 Quando Tou, re di Camat, ebbe udito che Davide aveva sconfitto tutto l’esercito di Adadezer, re di Soba, 10 mandò al re Davide Adoram, suo figlio, per salutarlo e per benedirlo perché aveva mosso guerra a Adadezer e l’aveva sconfitto (Adadezer era sempre in guerra con Tou); e Adoram portò con sé ogni tipo di vasi d’oro, d’argento e di bronzo. 11 Il re Davide consacrò anche quelli al Signore, come aveva già consacrato l’argento e l’oro che aveva portato via a tutte le nazioni: agli Edomiti, ai Moabiti, agli Ammoniti, ai Filistei e agli Amalechiti.
12 Abisai, figlio di Seruia, sconfisse pure diciottomila Edomiti nella valle del Sale. 13 Mise delle guarnigioni in Idumea e tutti gli Edomiti divennero sudditi di Davide; e il Signore rendeva Davide vittorioso dovunque egli andava.
14 (B)Davide regnò su tutto Israele, facendo valere il diritto e amministrando la giustizia a tutto il suo popolo. 15 Ioab, figlio di Seruia, comandava l’esercito; Giosafat, figlio di Ailud, era archivista; 16 Sadoc, figlio di Aitub, e Abimelec, figlio di Abiatar, erano sacerdoti; Savsa era segretario; 17 Benaia, figlio di Ieoiada, era capo dei Cheretei e dei Peletei; e i figli di Davide erano i primi al fianco del re.

18 After this (B)it came to pass that David [a]attacked the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines. 2 Then he [b]defeated (C)Moab, and the Moabites became David’s (D)servants, and brought tribute.
3 And (E)David [c]defeated [d]Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his power by the River Euphrates. 4 David took from him one thousand chariots, [e]seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Also David [f]hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.
5 When the (F)Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians. 6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought tribute. So the Lord preserved David wherever he went. 7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 Also from [g]Tibhath and from [h]Chun, cities of [i]Hadadezer, David brought a large amount of (G)bronze, with which (H)Solomon made the bronze [j]Sea, the pillars, and the articles of bronze.
9 Now when [k]Tou king of Hamath heard that David had [l]defeated all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, 10 he sent [m]Hadoram his son to King David, to greet him and bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and [n]defeated him (for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou); and Hadoram brought with him all kinds of (I)articles of gold, silver, and bronze. 11 King David also dedicated these to the Lord, along with the silver and gold that he had brought from all these nations—from Edom, from Moab, from the (J)people of Ammon, from the (K)Philistines, and from (L)Amalek.
12 Moreover (M)Abishai the son of Zeruiah killed (N)eighteen thousand [o]Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 13 (O)He also put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord preserved David wherever he went.

14 So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people. 15 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16 Zadok the son of Ahitub and [p]Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; [q]Shavsha was the scribe; 17 (Q)Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were [r]chief ministers at the king’s side.

18 Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.
3 And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.
4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.
5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
6 Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought gifts. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.
7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.
9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
10 He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
11 Them also king David dedicated unto the Lord, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.
13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.
14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.
16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;
17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
