O número do povo e as turmas de serviço para cada mês

27 Estes são os filhos de Israel segundo o seu número, e os chefes dos pais, e os capitães dos milhares e das centenas, com os seus oficiais, que serviam ao rei em todos os negócios das turmas, entrando e saindo de mês em mês, em todos os meses do ano, cada turma de vinte e quatro mil. Sobre a primeira turma do mês primeiro estava Jasobeão, filho de Zabdiel; e em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. Era este dos filhos de Perez, chefe de todos os capitães dos exércitos, para o primeiro mês. E sobre a turma do segundo mês era Dodai, o aoíta, com a sua turma, cujo chefe era Miclote; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. O terceiro capitão do exército do terceiro mês era Benaia, filho de Joiada, oficial-mor e chefe; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. Era este Benaia um varão entre os trinta, e sobre os trinta; e sobre a sua turma estava Amizabade, seu filho. O quarto, para o quarto mês, Asael, irmão de Joabe, e, depois dele, Zebadias, seu filho; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. O quinto, para o quinto mês, o maioral Samute, o izraíta; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. O sexto, para o sexto mês, Ira, filho de Iques, o tecoíta; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 10 O sétimo, para o sétimo mês, Heles, o pelonita, dos filhos de Efraim; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 11 O oitavo, para o oitavo mês, Sibecai, o husatita, dos zeraítas; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 12 O nono, para o nono mês, Abiezer, o anatotita, dos benjamitas; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 13 O décimo, para o décimo mês, Maarai, o netofatita, dos zeraítas; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 14 O undécimo, para o undécimo mês, Benaia, o piratonita, dos filhos de Efraim; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil. 15 O duodécimo, para o duodécimo mês, Heldai, o netofatita, de Otniel; também em sua turma havia vinte e quatro mil.

16 Porém sobre as tribos de Israel eram estes: sobre os rubenitas era chefe Eliézer, filho de Zicri; sobre os simeonitas, Sefatias, filho de Maaca; 17 sobre os levitas, Hasabias, filho de Quemuel; sobre os aronitas, Zadoque; 18 sobre Judá, Eliú, dos irmãos de Davi; sobre Issacar, Onri, filho de Micael; 19 sobre Zebulom, Ismaías, filho de Obadias; sobre Naftali, Jerimote, filho de Azriel; 20 sobre os filhos de Efraim, Oseias, filho de Azazias; sobre a meia tribo de Manassés, Joel, filho de Pedaías; 21 sobre a outra meia tribo de Manassés em Gileade, Ido, filho de Zacarias; sobre Benjamim, Jaasiel, filho de Abner; 22 sobre Dã, Azarel, filho de Jeroão; estes eram os capitães das tribos de Israel. 23 Não tomou, porém, Davi o número dos de vinte anos para baixo, porquanto o Senhor tinha dito que havia de multiplicar a Israel como as estrelas do céu. 24 Joabe, filho de Zeruia, tinha começado a numerá-los, porém não acabou, porquanto viera, por isso, grande ira sobre Israel; pelo que o número se não pôs na conta das crônicas do rei Davi.

25 E sobre os tesouros do rei estava Azmavete, filho de Adiel; e sobre os tesouros da terra, e das cidades, e das aldeias, e das torres, Jônatas, filho de Uzias; 26 e sobre os que faziam a obra do campo, na lavoura da terra, Ezri, filho de Quelube; 27 e sobre as vinhas, Simei, o ramatita; porém sobre o que das vides entrava nos tesouros do vinho, Zabdi o sifmita; 28 e sobre os olivais e figueiras bravas que havia nas campinas, Baal-Hanã, o gederita; porém Joás, sobre os tesouros do azeite; 29 e sobre os gados que pasciam em Sarom, Sitrai, o saronita; porém sobre os gados dos vales, Safate, filho de Adlai; 30 e sobre os camelos, Obil, o ismaelita; e sobre as jumentas, Jedias, o meronotita; 31 e sobre o gado miúdo, Jaziz, o hagarita; todos estes eram maiorais da fazenda que tinha o rei Davi.

32 Jônatas, tio de Davi, era do conselho, homem sábio e também escriba; e Jeiel, filho de Hacmoni, estava com os filhos do rei; 33 e Aitofel era do conselho do rei; e Husai, o arquita, amigo do rei; 34 e, depois de Aitofel, Joiada, filho de Benaia, e Abiatar; porém Joabe era chefe do exército do rei.

Comandantes e divisões militares

27 Esta é a lista dos israelitas, chefes de família, generais e capitães[a] que serviam o rei na supervisão das divisões do exército de serviço a cada mês do ano. Cada divisão tinha 24 mil homens e servia durante um mês.

Jasobeão, filho de Zabdiel, era comandante da primeira divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o primeiro mês. Era descendente de Perez e chefe de todos os oficiais do exército para o primeiro mês.

Dodai, descendente de Aoí, era comandante da segunda divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o segundo mês. Miclote era o chefe da divisão.

Benaia, filho do sacerdote Joiada, era comandante da terceira divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o terceiro mês. Esse Benaia comandou o grupo militar de elite de Davi, conhecido como os Trinta. Seu filho Amizabade era o chefe da divisão.

Asael, irmão de Joabe, era comandante da quarta divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o quarto mês. Asael foi sucedido por seu filho Zebadias.

Sama,[b] o izraíta, era comandante da quinta divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o quinto mês.

Ira, filho de Iques, de Tecoa, era comandante da sexta divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o sexto mês.

10 Helez, de Pelom, descendente de Efraim, era comandante da sétima divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o sétimo mês.

11 Sibecai, de Husate, descendente de Zera, era comandante da oitava divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o oitavo mês.

12 Abiezer, de Anatote, da tribo de Benjamim, era comandante da nona divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o nono mês.

13 Maarai, de Netofate, descendente de Zera, era comandante da décima divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o décimo mês.

14 Benaia, de Piratom, em Efraim, era comandante da décima primeira divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o décimo primeiro mês.

15 Helede,[c] de Netofate, descendente de Otniel, era comandante da décima segunda divisão de 24 mil homens, de serviço durante o décimo segundo mês.

16 Estas foram as tribos de Israel e seus líderes:

23 Quando Davi fez o censo, não contou os que tinham menos de 20 anos, pois o Senhor havia prometido que os israelitas seriam numerosos como as estrelas no céu. 24 Joabe, filho de Zeruia, começou o censo, mas nunca o terminou, porque a ira de Deus caiu sobre Israel. O número total nunca foi anotado nos registros oficiais do rei Davi.

Oficiais do reino de Davi

25 Azmavete, filho de Adiel, era encarregado dos depósitos do palácio.

Jônatas, filho de Uzias, era encarregado dos depósitos nos campos, nas cidades, nos povoados e nas fortalezas.

26 Ezri, filho de Quelube, era encarregado dos trabalhadores nos campos, que cultivavam as terras.

27 Simei, de Ramá, era encarregado dos vinhedos.

Zabdi, de Sifá, era encarregado das uvas e do fornecimento de vinho.

28 Baal-Hanã, de Gederá, era encarregado das plantações de oliveiras e figueiras-bravas do rei nas colinas de Judá.[d]

Joás era encarregado dos depósitos de azeite.

29 Sitrai, de Sarom, era encarregado do gado na planície de Sarom.

Safate, filho de Adlai, era encarregado do gado nos vales.

30 Obil, o ismaelita, era encarregado dos camelos.

Jedias, de Meronote, era encarregado dos jumentos.

31 Jaziz, o hagareno, era encarregado das ovelhas.

Todos esses oficiais administravam as propriedades do rei Davi.

32 Jônatas, tio de Davi, era conselheiro do rei, homem sábio e também escriba. Jeiel, filho de Hacmoni, era responsável por ensinar os filhos do rei. 33 Aitofel era conselheiro do rei. Husai, o arquita, era amigo do rei. 34 Aitofel foi sucedido por Joiada, filho de Benaia, e por Abiatar. Joabe era comandante do exército do rei.

27 Now the children of Israel after their number, the heads of fathers’ households and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king in any matter of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—of every division were twenty-four thousand.

Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel. In his division were twenty-four thousand. He was of the children of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month. Over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite and his division, and Mikloth the ruler; and in his division were twenty-four thousand. The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the chief priest. In his division were twenty-four thousand. This is that Benaiah who was the mighty man of the thirty and over the thirty. Of his division was Ammizabad his son. The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him. In his division were twenty-four thousand. The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite. In his division were twenty-four thousand. The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 10 The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 11 The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 12 The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 13 The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 14 The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim. In his division were twenty-four thousand. 15 The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel. In his division were twenty-four thousand.

16 Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites, Eliezer the son of Zichri was the ruler; of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah; 17 of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; of Aaron, Zadok; 18 of Judah, Elihu, one of the brothers of David; of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael; 19 of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; of Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel; 20 of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah; 21 of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner; 22 of Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the captains of the tribes of Israel. 23 But David didn’t take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Yahweh had said he would increase Israel like the stars of the sky. 24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to take a census, but didn’t finish; and wrath came on Israel for this. The number wasn’t put into the account in the chronicles of King David.

25 Over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel. Over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers was Jonathan the son of Uzziah; 26 Over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub. 27 Over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite. Over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. 28 Over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowland was Baal Hanan the Gederite. Over the cellars of oil was Joash. 29 Over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite. Over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai. 30 Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite. Over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. 31 All these were the rulers of the property which was King David’s.

32 Also Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe. Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons. 33 Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend. 34 After Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was the captain of the king’s army.

27 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.

Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand.

The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammizabad his son.

The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

10 The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens.

24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.

25 And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:

26 And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:

30 Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite:

31 And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.

32 Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:

33 And Ahithophel was the king's counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king's companion:

34 And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king's army was Joab.
