El ejército de David
12 Y estos son los que vinieron a David en Siclag, mientras aún se ocultaba[a] por causa de Saúl, hijo de Cis. Eran de los hombres valientes que le ayudaron en la guerra(A). 2 Estaban armados con arcos, y usaban tanto la mano derecha como la izquierda para lanzar piedras y tirar flechas con el arco(B). Eran parientes[b] de Saúl(C) de Benjamín. 3 El jefe era Ahiezer, después Joás, hijos de Semaa guibeatita; Jeziel y Pelet, hijos de Azmavet; Beraca y Jehú anatotita; 4 Ismaías gabaonita, hombre valiente entre los treinta, y jefe de[c] los treinta. [d]Después Jeremías, Jahaziel, Johanán, Jozabad gederatita, 5 [e]Eluzai, Jerimot, Bealías, Semarías, Sefatías harufita, 6 Elcana, Isías, Azareel, Joezer, Jasobeam, coreítas, 7 y Joela y Zebadías, hijos de Jeroham de Gedor.
8 También de los de Gad se pasaron a[f] David en la fortaleza en el desierto, hombres fuertes y valientes, entrenados para la guerra, diestros con el escudo y la lanza, cuyos rostros eran como rostros de leones, y eran tan ligeros como las gacelas sobre los montes(D). 9 Ezer fue el primero, Obadías el segundo, Eliab el tercero, 10 Mismana el cuarto, Jeremías el quinto, 11 Atai el sexto, Eliel el séptimo, 12 Johanán el octavo, Elzabad el noveno, 13 Jeremías el décimo, Macbanai el undécimo. 14 De los hijos de Gad, estos fueron capitanes[g] del ejército; el menor valía por cien y el mayor por mil(E). 15 Estos son los que cruzaron el Jordán en el primer mes, cuando inundaba todas sus riberas, y pusieron en fuga a todos los de los valles, tanto al oriente como al occidente(F).
16 Entonces vinieron algunos de los hijos de Benjamín y Judá a David a la fortaleza. 17 Y salió David a su encuentro, y les habló, diciendo[h]: Si venís a mí en paz para ayudarme, mi corazón se unirá con vosotros; pero si venís para entregarme a mis enemigos, ya que no hay maldad[i] en mis manos[j], que el Dios de nuestros padres lo vea y decida. 18 Entonces el Espíritu vino sobre[k](G) Amasai(H), jefe de los treinta, el cual dijo:
Tuyos somos, oh David,
y contigo estamos, hijo de Isaí.
Paz, paz a ti(I),
y paz al que te ayuda;
ciertamente tu Dios te ayuda.
Entonces David los recibió y los hizo capitanes[l] del grupo.
19 Algunos de Manasés se pasaron también a David, cuando este iba con los filisteos a la batalla contra Saúl(J). Pero estos no les ayudaron, porque los príncipes de los filisteos, después de tomar consejo, lo despidieron, diciendo: A costa de[m] nuestras cabezas se pasará a su señor Saúl. 20 Y cuando él iba a Siclag, se pasaron a él de Manasés: Adnas, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Micael, Jozabad, Eliú y Ziletai, capitanes[n] de miles que eran de Manasés. 21 Ellos ayudaron a David contra la banda de merodeadores(K), pues todos eran hombres fuertes y valientes, y fueron capitanes en el ejército. 22 Porque día tras día se pasaban hombres a David para ayudarlo, hasta que hubo un gran ejército[o], como un ejército[p] de Dios(L).
23 Y estos son los números de los escuadrones[q] equipados para la guerra, que vinieron a David en Hebrón(M) para transferirle el reino de Saúl(N), conforme a la palabra[r] del Señor(O): 24 Los hijos de Judá que llevaban escudo y lanza eran seis mil ochocientos, equipados para la guerra. 25 De los hijos de Simeón, hombres fuertes y valientes para la guerra, siete mil cien. 26 De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil seiscientos. 27 Y Joiada, príncipe de la casa de Aarón, y con él tres mil setecientos; 28 también Sadoc(P), joven fuerte y valiente, y de la casa de su padre veintidós capitanes. 29 De los hijos de Benjamín, parientes de Saúl(Q), tres mil; porque hasta entonces la mayor parte de ellos habían permanecido fieles a la casa de Saúl(R). 30 De los hijos de Efraín, veinte mil ochocientos, hombres fuertes y valientes, famosos en sus casas paternas. 31 De la media tribu de Manasés, dieciocho mil, que por nombre fueron designados para venir y hacer rey a David. 32 De los hijos de Isacar, expertos en discernir los tiempos(S), con conocimiento de lo que Israel debía hacer, sus jefes eran doscientos; y todos sus parientes estaban bajo sus órdenes. 33 De Zabulón había cincuenta mil que salieron con el ejército, que podían ponerse en orden de batalla con toda clase de armas de guerra y que ayudaron a David sin doblez de corazón(T). 34 De Neftalí había mil capitanes, y con ellos treinta y siete mil con escudo y lanza. 35 De los de Dan que podían ponerse en orden de batalla, había veintiocho mil seiscientos. 36 De Aser había cuarenta mil que salieron con el ejército para ponerse en orden de batalla. 37 Y del otro lado del Jordán de los rubenitas y gaditas y de la media tribu de Manasés, había ciento veinte mil con toda clase de armas de guerra para la batalla.
38 Todos estos, hombres de guerra, que podían ponerse en orden de batalla, vinieron con corazón perfecto a Hebrón, para hacer rey a David sobre todo Israel; también todos los demás de Israel eran de un mismo parecer para hacer rey a David(U). 39 Y estuvieron allí con David tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, porque sus parientes habían hecho provisión para ellos. 40 También, los que estaban cerca de ellos, y hasta Isacar, Zabulón y Neftalí, trajeron víveres en asnos, camellos, mulos y bueyes; grandes cantidades de tortas de harina, tortas de higos y racimos de uvas pasas, vino, aceite, bueyes y ovejas(V). Verdaderamente había alegría en Israel.

El ejército de David
12 Estos son los que vinieron a David en Siclag, estando él aún encerrado por causa de Saúl hijo de Cis, y eran de los valientes que le ayudaron en la guerra. 2 Estaban armados de arcos, y usaban de ambas manos para tirar piedras con honda y saetas con arco. De los hermanos de Saúl de Benjamín: 3 El principal Ahiezer, después Joás, hijos de Semaa gabaatita; Jeziel y Pelet hijos de Azmavet, Beraca, Jehú anatotita, 4 Ismaías gabaonita, valiente entre los treinta, y más que los treinta; Jeremías, Jahaziel, Johanán, Jozabad gederatita, 5 Eluzai, Jerimot, Bealías, Semarías, Sefatías harufita, 6 Elcana, Isías, Azareel, Joezer y Jasobeam, coreítas, 7 y Joela y Zebadías hijos de Jeroham de Gedor.
8 También de los de Gad huyeron y fueron a David, al lugar fuerte en el desierto, hombres de guerra muy valientes para pelear, diestros con escudo y pavés; sus rostros eran como rostros de leones, y eran ligeros como las gacelas sobre las montañas. 9 Ezer el primero, Obadías el segundo, Eliab el tercero, 10 Mismana el cuarto, Jeremías el quinto, 11 Atai el sexto, Eliel el séptimo, 12 Johanán el octavo, Elzabad el noveno, 13 Jeremías el décimo y Macbanai el undécimo. 14 Estos fueron capitanes del ejército de los hijos de Gad. El menor tenía cargo de cien hombres, y el mayor de mil. 15 Estos pasaron el Jordán en el mes primero, cuando se había desbordado por todas sus riberas; e hicieron huir a todos los de los valles al oriente y al poniente.
16 Asimismo algunos de los hijos de Benjamín y de Judá vinieron a David al lugar fuerte. 17 Y David salió a ellos, y les habló diciendo: Si habéis venido a mí para paz y para ayudarme, mi corazón será unido con vosotros; mas si es para entregarme a mis enemigos, sin haber iniquidad en mis manos, véalo el Dios de nuestros padres, y lo demande. 18 Entonces el Espíritu vino sobre Amasai, jefe de los treinta, y dijo: Por ti, oh David, y contigo, oh hijo de Isaí. Paz, paz contigo, y paz con tus ayudadores, pues también tu Dios te ayuda. Y David los recibió, y los puso entre los capitanes de la tropa.
19 También se pasaron a David algunos de Manasés, cuando vino con los filisteos a la batalla contra Saúl (pero David no les ayudó, porque los jefes de los filisteos, habido consejo, lo despidieron, diciendo: Con peligro de nuestras cabezas se pasará a su señor Saúl). 20 Así que viniendo él a Siclag, se pasaron a él de los de Manasés, Adnas, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Micael, Jozabad, Eliú y Ziletai, príncipes de millares de los de Manasés. 21 Estos ayudaron a David contra la banda de merodeadores, pues todos ellos eran hombres valientes, y fueron capitanes en el ejército. 22 Porque entonces todos los días venía ayuda a David, hasta hacerse un gran ejército, como ejército de Dios.
23 Y este es el número de los principales que estaban listos para la guerra, y vinieron a David en Hebrón para traspasarle el reino de Saúl, conforme a la palabra de Jehová: 24 De los hijos de Judá que traían escudo y lanza, seis mil ochocientos, listos para la guerra. 25 De los hijos de Simeón, siete mil cien hombres, valientes y esforzados para la guerra. 26 De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil seiscientos; 27 asimismo Joiada, príncipe de los del linaje de Aarón, y con él tres mil setecientos, 28 y Sadoc, joven valiente y esforzado, con veintidós de los principales de la casa de su padre. 29 De los hijos de Benjamín hermanos de Saúl, tres mil; porque hasta entonces muchos de ellos se mantenían fieles a la casa de Saúl. 30 De los hijos de Efraín, veinte mil ochocientos, muy valientes, varones ilustres en las casas de sus padres. 31 De la media tribu de Manasés, dieciocho mil, los cuales fueron tomados por lista para venir a poner a David por rey. 32 De los hijos de Isacar, doscientos principales, entendidos en los tiempos, y que sabían lo que Israel debía hacer, cuyo dicho seguían todos sus hermanos. 33 De Zabulón cincuenta mil, que salían a campaña prontos para la guerra, con toda clase de armas de guerra, dispuestos a pelear sin doblez de corazón. 34 De Neftalí, mil capitanes, y con ellos treinta y siete mil con escudo y lanza. 35 De los de Dan, dispuestos a pelear, veintiocho mil seiscientos. 36 De Aser, dispuestos para la guerra y preparados para pelear, cuarenta mil. 37 Y del otro lado del Jordán, de los rubenitas y gaditas y de la media tribu de Manasés, ciento veinte mil con toda clase de armas de guerra.
38 Todos estos hombres de guerra, dispuestos para guerrear, vinieron con corazón perfecto a Hebrón, para poner a David por rey sobre todo Israel; asimismo todos los demás de Israel estaban de un mismo ánimo para poner a David por rey. 39 Y estuvieron allí con David tres días comiendo y bebiendo, porque sus hermanos habían preparado para ellos. 40 También los que les eran vecinos, hasta Isacar y Zabulón y Neftalí, trajeron víveres en asnos, camellos, mulos y bueyes; provisión de harina, tortas de higos, pasas, vino y aceite, y bueyes y ovejas en abundancia, porque en Israel había alegría.

12 Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag while he was a fugitive from Saul the son of Kish. They were among the mighty men, his helpers in war. 2 They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow. They were of Saul’s relatives of the tribe of Benjamin. 3 The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite; 4 Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and a leader of the thirty; Jeremiah; Jahaziel; Johanan; Jozabad the Gederathite; 5 Eluzai; Jerimoth; Bealiah; Shemariah; Shephatiah the Haruphite; 6 Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites; 7 and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
8 Some Gadites joined David in the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains: 9 Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, 10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, 11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, 12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, 13 Jeremiah the tenth, and Machbannai the eleventh. 14 These of the sons of Gad were captains of the army. He who was least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand. 15 These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all who lived in the valleys, both toward the east and toward the west.
16 Some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David. 17 David went out to meet them, and answered them, “If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers see this and rebuke it.” 18 Then the Spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, “We are yours, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse. Peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you.” Then David received them and made them captains of the band.
19 Some of Manasseh also joined David when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they didn’t help them, for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, “He will desert to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.”
20 As he went to Ziklag, some from Manasseh joined him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands who were of Manasseh. 21 They helped David against the band of raiders, for they were all mighty men of valor and were captains in the army. 22 For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like God’s army.
23 These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to Yahweh’s word. 24 The children of Judah who bore shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred, armed for war. 25 Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war: seven thousand one hundred. 26 Of the children of Levi: four thousand six hundred. 27 Jehoiada was the leader of the household of Aaron; and with him were three thousand seven hundred, 28 and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father’s house twenty-two captains. 29 Of the children of Benjamin, Saul’s relatives: three thousand, for until then, the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to Saul’s house. 30 Of the children of Ephraim: twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers’ houses. 31 Of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king. 32 Of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their heads were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their command. 33 Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array with all kinds of instruments of war: fifty thousand who could command and were not of double heart. 34 Of Naphtali: one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand. 35 Of the Danites who could set the battle in array: twenty-eight thousand six hundred. 36 Of Asher, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array: forty thousand. 37 On the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all kinds of instruments of war for the battle: one hundred twenty thousand.
38 All these were men of war who could order the battle array, and came with a perfect heart to Hebron to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. 39 They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had supplied provisions for them. 40 Moreover those who were near to them, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, on camels, on mules, and on oxen: supplies of flour, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.

Warriors Join David
12 These were the men who came to David at Ziklag,(A) while he was banished from the presence of Saul son of Kish (they were among the warriors who helped him in battle; 2 they were armed with bows and were able to shoot arrows or to sling stones right-handed or left-handed;(B) they were relatives of Saul(C) from the tribe of Benjamin):
3 Ahiezer their chief and Joash the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth; Berakah, Jehu the Anathothite, 4 and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty warrior among the Thirty, who was a leader of the Thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite,[a](D) 5 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah and Shephatiah the Haruphite; 6 Elkanah, Ishiah, Azarel, Joezer and Jashobeam the Korahites; 7 and Joelah and Zebadiah the sons of Jeroham from Gedor.(E)
8 Some Gadites(F) defected to David at his stronghold in the wilderness. They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions,(G) and they were as swift as gazelles(H) in the mountains.
9 Ezer was the chief,
Obadiah the second in command, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 Jeremiah the tenth and Makbannai the eleventh.
14 These Gadites were army commanders; the least was a match for a hundred,(I) and the greatest for a thousand.(J) 15 It was they who crossed the Jordan in the first month when it was overflowing all its banks,(K) and they put to flight everyone living in the valleys, to the east and to the west.
16 Other Benjamites(L) and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”
18 Then the Spirit(M) came on Amasai,(N) chief of the Thirty, and he said:
“We are yours, David!
We are with you, son of Jesse!
Success,(O) success to you,
and success to those who help you,
for your God will help you.”
So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.
19 Some of the tribe of Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (He and his men did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their rulers sent him away. They said, “It will cost us our heads if he deserts to his master Saul.”)(P) 20 When David went to Ziklag,(Q) these were the men of Manasseh who defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu and Zillethai, leaders of units of a thousand in Manasseh. 21 They helped David against raiding bands, for all of them were brave warriors, and they were commanders in his army. 22 Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.[b]
Others Join David at Hebron
23 These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron(R) to turn(S) Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said:(T)
24 from Judah, carrying shield and spear—6,800 armed for battle;
25 from Simeon, warriors ready for battle—7,100;
26 from Levi—4,600, 27 including Jehoiada, leader of the family of Aaron, with 3,700 men, 28 and Zadok,(U) a brave young warrior, with 22 officers from his family;
29 from Benjamin,(V) Saul’s tribe—3,000, most(W) of whom had remained loyal to Saul’s house until then;
30 from Ephraim, brave warriors, famous in their own clans—20,800;
31 from half the tribe of Manasseh, designated by name to come and make David king—18,000;
32 from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do(X)—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command;
33 from Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty—50,000;
34 from Naphtali—1,000 officers, together with 37,000 men carrying shields and spears;
35 from Dan, ready for battle—28,600;
36 from Asher, experienced soldiers prepared for battle—40,000;
37 and from east of the Jordan, from Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, armed with every type of weapon—120,000.
38 All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel.(Y) All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king. 39 The men spent three days there with David, eating and drinking,(Z) for their families had supplied provisions for them. 40 Also, their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules and oxen. There were plentiful supplies(AA) of flour, fig cakes, raisin(AB) cakes, wine, olive oil, cattle and sheep, for there was joy(AC) in Israel.
