8 Ora, riguardo alle cose sacrificate agli idoli, noi sappiamo che tutti abbiamo conoscenza; la conoscenza gonfia, ma l'amore edifica.
2 Ora, se uno pensa di sapere qualche cosa, non sa ancora nulla di come egli dovrebbe sapere.
3 Ma se uno ama Dio, egli è da lui conosciuto.
4 Perciò quanto al mangiare le cose sacrificate agli idoli, noi sappiamo che l'idolo non è nulla nel mondo, e che non vi è alcun altro Dio, se non uno solo,
5 E infatti, anche se vi sono i cosiddetti dèi sia in cielo che in terra (come vi sono molti dèi e molti signori),
6 per noi c'è un solo Dio, il Padre dal quale sono tutte le cose e noi in lui; e un solo Signore, Gesú Cristo, per mezzo del quale sono tutte le cose, e noi esistiamo per mezzo di lui.
7 Ma la conoscenza non è in tutti; anzi alcuni, avendo finora consapevolezza dell'idolo, mangiano come di una cosa sacrificata all'idolo; e la loro coscienza, essendo debole, ne è contaminata.
8 Ora un cibo non ci rende graditi a Dio; se mangiamo, non abbiamo nulla di piú, e se non mangiamo, non abbiamo nulla di meno.
9 Badate però che questa vostra libertà non divenga un intoppo per i deboli.
10 Perché se qualcuno vede te, che hai conoscenza, seduto a tavola in un tempio di idoli, la coscienza di lui, che è debole, non sarà forse incoraggiata a mangiare le cose sacrificate agli idoli?
11 E cosí, a causa della tua conoscenza perirà il fratello debole, per il quale Cristo è morto.
12 Ora, peccando cosí contro i fratelli e ferendo la loro coscienza debole, voi peccate contro Cristo.
13 Perciò, se un cibo scandalizza il mio fratello, non mangerò mai piú carne, per non scandalizzare il mio fratello,

Sur les viandes sacrifiées aux idoles
8 Passons au problème[a] des viandes provenant d’animaux sacrifiés aux idoles[b]. Nous possédons tous la connaissance voulue, nous le savons. Mais la connaissance rend orgueilleux. L’amour, lui, fait grandir dans la foi. 2 Celui qui s’imagine avoir de la connaissance ne connaît pas encore comme on doit connaître. 3 Mais celui qui aime Dieu, celui-là est connu de Dieu. 4 Qu’en est-il donc de la question de la consommation des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles ? Nous savons qu’il n’existe pas d’idoles dans le monde et qu’il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu. 5 Certes, bien des êtres célestes ou terrestres sont considérés comme des divinités, de sorte qu’il y a de nombreux dieux ou seigneurs. 6 Mais pour ce qui nous concerne, il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu : le Père, de qui toute chose vient, et pour qui nous vivons, et il n’y a qu’un seul Seigneur : Jésus-Christ, par qui tout existe et par qui nous sommes.
7 Mais tous les chrétiens n’ont pas encore bien assimilé ces vérités. Quelques-uns, encore marqués par leur habitude de rendre un culte aux idoles, continuent à manger ces viandes avec la pensée qu’elles ont été offertes à des idoles. Alors leur conscience, qui est faible, se charge de culpabilité. 8 Mais ce n’est pas un aliment qui peut nous rapprocher de Dieu ; en manger ou pas ne nous rendra ni meilleurs, ni pires. 9 Toutefois, faites bien attention à ce que votre liberté ne cause pas la chute de ceux qui sont mal affermis dans la foi. 10 Supposons, en effet, que l’un d’eux te voie, toi, qui as la connaissance, assis à table dans un temple d’idoles[c]. Sa conscience ne va-t-elle pas l’encourager, lui qui est mal affermi, à manger des viandes sacrifiées aux idoles ? 11 Ainsi, à cause de ta connaissance, ce chrétien mal affermi va courir à sa perte. Et pourtant, c’est un frère ou une sœur pour qui Christ a donné sa vie ! 12 Si vous péchez de la sorte envers des frères ou des sœurs, en blessant leur conscience qui est faible, vous péchez contre Christ lui-même. 13 C’est pourquoi, si ce que je mange devait causer la chute de mon frère ou de ma sœur, j’y renoncerais à tout jamais, afin de ne pas être pour lui une occasion de chute.

Certains chrétiens se demandaient si ce n’était pas participer à l’idolâtrie que de consommer des viandes (achetées au marché) qui avaient été offertes aux idoles (voir Ac 15.29).

8 Now concerning the sacrifice to an elil (idol in avodah zarah, idol worship), we know that "we all possess da’as (knowledge)." But da’as puffs up (with ga’avah), but ahavah (agape 14:1) builds up.
2 If anyone presumes he has da’as of anything, he does not yet have da’as of the necessary da’as.
3 But if a person has Ahavas Hashem, Hashem has da’as of that person. [YIRMEYAH 1:5]
4 Now concerning the eating of the okhel (food) at the mizbe’ach of avodah zarah which is sacrificed to an elil (idol), we have da’as that an elil is nothing in the world, and that there is no G-d but ECHAD (DEVARIM 4:35, 39; 6:4).
5 For even if there are [in popular tradition] so-called "g-ds," whether in Shomayim or on ha’aretz, even as there are so-called "g-ds" many and "l-rds" many,
6 Yet in fact for us we have da’as that there is ADONOI ECHAD ("L-rd is One " DEVARIM 6:4), Hashem AV ECHAD L’CHULLANU ("One Father of us all” MALACHI 2:10), from whom are all things, and we exist for Hashem, and there is Adon Echad [MALACHI 3:1], Moshiach Yehoshua [ZECHARYAH 3:8; 6:11-12], through whom are all things and we through him.
7 However, not kol Bnei Adam have this da’as (knowledge). Some are so accustomed to the elil (idol) until now that when they eat, they think of the okhel (food) as being sacrificed to the elil in avodah zarah, and their matzpun (conscience), being weak, is made to be tameh (defiled).
8 But okhel (food) will not usher us into the presence of Hashem; neither are we falling short if we do not eat okhel, nor are we better if we eat.
9 But beware lest somehow your cherut (freedom) becomes a michshol (stumbling block) to the weak ones.
10 For if anyone sees you, the one having da’as (knowledge), eating in the temple of an elil, will not the matzpun of him be strengthened so as to eat the okhel sacrificed to an elil (idol) at the mizbe’ach of avodah zarah?
11 For the one being weak [in emunah] is being destroyed by your "da’as,” the Ach b’Moshiach for whom Moshiach died.
12 And thus by sinning against the Achim b’Moshiach and wounding their weak matzpunim (consciences), you commit averos against Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach.
13 Therefore, if okhel causes my Ach b’Moshiach to trip on a michshol, I should never eat meat again, lest I cause my Ach b’Moshiach to stumble.

Concerning Food Sacrificed to Idols
8 Now about food sacrificed to idols:(A) We know that “We all possess knowledge.”(B) But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. 2 Those who think they know something(C) do not yet know as they ought to know.(D) 3 But whoever loves God is known by God.[a](E)
4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols:(F) We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world”(G) and that “There is no God but one.”(H) 5 For even if there are so-called gods,(I) whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is but one God,(J) the Father,(K) from whom all things came(L) and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord,(M) Jesus Christ, through whom all things came(N) and through whom we live.
7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge.(O) Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak,(P) it is defiled. 8 But food does not bring us near to God;(Q) we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block(R) to the weak.(S) 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?(T) 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed(U) by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them(V) in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.(W) 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.(X)

8 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
