²⁴ So, brothers,^{[a] (A)}in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.

^20 (A)Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called.

^23 (A)Whatever you do, work heartily, ^(B)as for the Lord and not for men, ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord ^(C)you will receive the inheritance as your reward. ^(D)You are serving the Lord Christ.

Live as You Are Called

¹⁷ Only let each person lead the life^{[a] (A)}that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. ^(B)This is my rule in ^(C)all the churches.

²² Enoch ^(A)walked with God^[a] after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. ²³ Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. ²⁴ Enoch ^(B)walked with God, and he was not,^{[b] (C)}for God took him.

³¹ So, whether you eat or drink, or ^(A)whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Abraham and the Covenant of Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty;^[a] walk before me, and be ^(A)blameless,

⁴⁵ Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! ^(A)As the Lord lives, ^(B)there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God this day.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, so that he did not die.
