Don’t go to law in pagan courts
6 1-8 When any of you has a grievance against another, aren’t you ashamed to bring the matter to be settled before a pagan court instead of before the church? Don’t you know that Christians will one day judge the world? And if you are to judge the world do you consider yourselves incapable of settling such infinitely smaller matters? Don’t you also know that we shall judge the very angels themselves—how much more then matters of this world only! In any case, if you find you have to judge matters of this world, why choose as judges those who count for nothing in the church? I say this deliberately to rouse your sense of shame. Are you really unable to find among your number one man with enough sense to decide a dispute between one and another of you, or must one brother resort to law against another and that before those who have no faith in Christ! It is surely obvious that something must be seriously wrong in your church for you to be having lawsuits at all. Why not let yourself be wronged or cheated? For when you go to law against your brother you yourself do him wrong, for you cheat him of Christian love and forgiveness.
9-11 Have you forgotten that the kingdom of God will never belong to the wicked? Don’t be under any illusion—neither the impure, the idolater or the adulterer; neither the effeminate, the pervert or the thief; neither the swindler, the drunkard, the foul-mouthed or the rapacious shall have any share in the kingdom of God. And such men, remember, were some of you! But you have cleansed yourselves from all that, you have been made whole in spirit, you have been justified before God in the name of the Lord Jesus and in his very Spirit.
Christian liberty does not mean moral licence
12-17 As a Christian I may do anything, but that does not mean that everything is good for me. I may do everything, but I must not be a slave of anything. Food was meant for the stomach and the stomach for food; but God has no permanent purpose for either. But you cannot say that our physical body was made for sexual promiscuity; it was made for God, and God is the answer to our deepest longings. The God who raised the Lord from the dead will also raise us mortal men by his power. Have you realised the almost incredible fact that your bodies are integral parts of Christ himself? Am I then to take parts of Christ and join them to a prostitute? Never! Don’t you realise that when a man joins himself to a prostitute he makes with her a physical unity? For God says, ‘the two shall be one flesh’. On the other hand the man who joins himself to God is one with him in spirit.
18-20 Avoid sexual looseness like the plague! Every other sin that a man commits is done outside his own body, but this is an offence against his own body. Have you forgotten that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you, and that you are not the owner of your own body? You have been bought, and at what a price! Therefore bring glory to God both in your body and your spirit, for they both belong to him.

Retssager inden for menigheden
6 Hvis en af jer har et mellemværende med en anden fra menigheden, bør I løse sagen ved at bringe den til menighedens ledelse i stedet for at gå til en verdslig domstol. 2 Ved I ikke, at de kristne en dag skal dømme verden? Når I skal dømme verden, skulle I så ikke kunne klare sådanne småsager? 3 En dag skal vi jo dømme englene. Skulle vi så ikke kunne klare almindelige hverdagsproblemer? 4 Når der opstår interne stridigheder blandt menighedens medlemmer, vil I så som dommere bruge folk, som menigheden ikke har tillid til? 5 Det er for dårligt. Er der ikke en eneste iblandt jer, som har tilstrækkelig visdom til at dømme i den slags sager? 6 Skal den ene kristne virkelig sagsøge den anden og endda have sagen afgjort af ikke-kristne dommere? 7 Det er faktisk en falliterklæring, at kristne overhovedet fører retssager imod hinanden. Hvorfor ikke hellere lide uret og blive snydt? 8 Tænk, at nogle af jer ligefrem bedrager jeres medkristne og gør dem uret!
De, der lever i oprør mod Gud, får ikke del i hans rige
9 Ved I ikke, at de, der lever i oprør mod Gud, ikke får del i Guds rige? Pas på, at I ikke bedrager jer selv! Mennesker, der lever i seksuel synd, utroskab eller afgudsdyrkelse, vil ikke få del i Guds rige. Det samme gælder mænd, som praktiserer homoseksualitet, 10 og det gælder tyveknægte, griske mennesker, drankere, svindlere og dem, der nedgør andre. 11 Den form for levevis har nogle af jer haft, men nu er I blevet renset fra jeres synder. I er frikendte på grund af det, som Herren Jesus Kristus og Guds Ånd har gjort for jer, og I er nu indviet til at tjene Gud.
12 „Alt er tilladt,” siger nogle af jer. Men ikke alt er gavnligt. Det kan godt være, at alt er tilladt for mig, men jeg skal ikke lade noget få kontrollen over mig. 13 „Maden er skabt til maven, og maven er skabt til maden,” siger nogle. Ja, men der er evighedsværdier, som er vigtigere end fysisk tilfredsstillelse. Vi har ikke fået en krop for at bruge den til seksuel synd, men for at bruge den til ære for Kristus og lade ham være herre over den. 14 Ligesom Gud oprejste Jesus fra de døde, vil han også oprejse os ved sin kraft.
15 Ved I ikke, at I hver for sig er lemmer på Kristi legeme? Kan man tage en del af Kristi legeme og bruge det til prostitution?[a] Aldrig! 16 Ved I ikke, at den mand, der giver sig hen til en prostitueret, gør sig til ét med hende? „De to skal blive ét,”[b] hedder det jo. 17 Men den, der giver sig hen til Herren, bliver åndeligt forenet med ham. 18 I må afholde jer fra seksuel umoral.
I påstår, at synd ikke har noget med kroppen at gøre. Det passer ikke, for den, der går i seng med en prostitueret, synder netop mod sin egen krop.[c] 19 Ved I ikke, at Helligånden, som I har fået fra Gud, bor i jeres krop? Ved I ikke, at I ikke længere tilhører jer selv? 20 Gud har ikke alene løskøbt jer, men også betalt en meget høj pris. Brug derfor jeres krop til ære for ham, som I tilhører.

6 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Lawsuits Among Believers
6 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?(A) 2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world?(B) And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? 5 I say this to shame you.(C) Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?(D) 6 But instead, one brother(E) takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!(F)
7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?(G) 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.(H) 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God?(I) Do not be deceived:(J) Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers(K) nor men who have sex with men[a](L) 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers(M) will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were.(N) But you were washed,(O) you were sanctified,(P) you were justified(Q) in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Sexual Immorality
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.(R) “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.”(S) The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord,(T) and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead,(U) and he will raise us also.(V) 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?(W) Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[b](X) 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.[c](Y)
18 Flee from sexual immorality.(Z) All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.(AA) 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples(AB) of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;(AC) 20 you were bought at a price.(AD) Therefore honor God with your bodies.(AE)
