⁹ I wrote to you in my letter not to mix together^[a] with sexually immoral people— ¹⁰ not at all meaning the sexually immoral people of this world or the greedy or swindlers or idolaters, for then you would have to exit the world. ¹¹ But now I am writing to you not to mix together with anyone who is being called a brother if he is sexually immoral or greedy or an idolater or a slanderer or a drunkard or a swindler—not even to eat with such a fellow. ¹² For what business do I have judging outsiders? Don’t you judge those who are inside? ¹³ But those who are outside, God judges. Put away the wicked fellow from among yourselves.^[b]

³⁵ Yeshua said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty. ³⁶ But I told you that you have seen Me, yet you do not believe. ³⁷ Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and anyone coming to Me I will never reject. ³⁸ For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will but the will of the One who sent Me.

³⁹ “Now this is the will of the One who sent Me, that I lose not one of all He has given Me, but raise each one on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who sees the Son and trusts in Him may have eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

⁴¹ Some of the Judeans^[a] started to grumble about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” ⁴² They were saying, “Isn’t this Yeshua the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can He now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”

⁴³ Yeshua answered, “Stop grumbling among yourselves! ⁴⁴ No one can come to Me unless My Father who sent Me draws him—and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’^[b] Everyone who has listened and learned from the Father comes to Me. ⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God—He has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ “Amen, amen I tell you, he who believes has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread, which came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

Satisfying Spiritual Thirst

³⁷ On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Yeshua stood up and cried out loudly, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. ³⁸ Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture says, ‘out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” ^{[a] 39} Now He said this about the Ruach, whom those who trusted in Him were going to receive; for the Ruach^[b] was not yet given, since Yeshua was not yet glorified.

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, some of the crowd said, “This man really is the Prophet.” ⁴¹ Others were saying, “This is the Messiah.” Still others were saying, “The Messiah doesn’t come from the Galilee, does He? ⁴² Didn’t the Scripture say that the Messiah comes from the seed of David and from Bethlehem, David’s town?” ^{[c] 43} So a division arose in the crowd because of Yeshua. ⁴⁴ Some wanted to capture Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

Religious Adversaries

⁴⁵ Then the guards returned to the ruling kohanim and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him?”

⁴⁶ “Never has anyone spoken like this man,” the guards answered.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees responded, “You haven’t been led astray also, have you? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him? ⁴⁹ No, but this mob that doesn’t know the Torah—they are cursed!”

⁵⁰ Nicodemus, the one who had come to Yeshua before and was one of them, said to them, ⁵¹ “Our Torah doesn’t judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it?”

⁵² They answered him, “You aren’t from the Galilee too, are you? Search, and see that no prophet comes out of the Galilee!”^[d]

Yeshua, the Ruach of Truth

4 Loved ones, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world. ^{[a] 2} You know the Ruach Elohim by this—every spirit that acknowledges that Messiah Yeshua has come in human flesh is from God, ³ but every spirit that does not acknowledge Yeshua is not from God. This is the spirit of the anti-messiah, which you have heard is coming and now is already in the world. ⁴ You are from God, children, and you have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. ⁵ They are from the world, so they speak from the world and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God; whoever knows God listens to us, but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
