Final Greetings

19 The churches in the province of Asia(A) send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla[a](B) greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.(C) 20 All the brothers and sisters here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.(D)

21 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand.(E)

22 If anyone does not love the Lord,(F) let that person be cursed!(G) Come, Lord[b]!(H)

23 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.(I)

24 My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. Amen.[c]

Paul, an apostle(J) of Christ Jesus by the will of God,(K) and Timothy(L) our brother,

To the church of God(M) in Corinth,(N) together with all his holy people throughout Achaia:(O)

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(P)

Praise to the God of All Comfort

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,(Q) the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us(R) in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ,(S) so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation;(T) if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings,(U) so also you share in our comfort.

We do not want you to be uninformed,(V) brothers and sisters,[d] about the troubles we experienced(W) in the province of Asia.(X) We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God,(Y) who raises the dead.(Z) 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril,(AA) and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope(AB) that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers.(AC) Then many will give thanks(AD) on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Paul’s Change of Plans

12 Now this is our boast: Our conscience(AE) testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity[e](AF) and godly sincerity.(AG) We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom(AH) but on God’s grace. 13 For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand. And I hope that, 14 as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus.(AI)

15 Because I was confident of this, I wanted to visit you(AJ) first so that you might benefit twice.(AK) 16 I wanted to visit you on my way(AL) to Macedonia(AM) and to come back to you from Macedonia, and then to have you send me on my way(AN) to Judea.(AO) 17 Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner(AP) so that in the same breath I say both “Yes, yes” and “No, no”?

18 But as surely as God is faithful,(AQ) our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” 19 For the Son of God,(AR) Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas[f](AS) and Timothy(AT)—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always(AU) been “Yes.” 20 For no matter how many promises(AV) God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen”(AW) is spoken by us to the glory of God.(AX) 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm(AY) in Christ. He anointed(AZ) us, 22 set his seal(BA) of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.(BB)

23 I call God as my witness(BC)—and I stake my life on it—that it was in order to spare you(BD) that I did not return to Corinth. 24 Not that we lord it over(BE) your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.(BF)

Psalm 113

Praise the Lord.[a](A)

Praise the Lord, you his servants;(B)
praise the name of the Lord.
Let the name of the Lord be praised,(C)
    both now and forevermore.(D)
From the rising of the sun(E) to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised.

The Lord is exalted(F) over all the nations,
    his glory above the heavens.(G)
Who is like the Lord our God,(H)
the One who sits enthroned(I) on high,(J)
who stoops down to look(K)
on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor(L) from the dust
    and lifts the needy(M) from the ash heap;
he seats them(N) with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He settles the childless(O) woman in her home
as a happy mother of children.

Praise the Lord.
