15 Soothly, brethren, I make the gospel known to you, which I have preached to you, which also ye have taken, in which [and] ye stand,
2 by which also ye shall be saved [by which and ye be saved]; by which reason I have preached to you, if ye hold, if ye have not believed idly.
3 For I betook to you at the beginning that thing which also I have received; that Christ was dead for our sins, by the scriptures;[a]
4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again in the third day, after [the] scriptures;
5 and that he was seen to Cephas, and after these things to eleven;
6 afterward he was seen to more than five hundred brethren together, of which many live yet, but some be dead[b];
7 afterward he was seen to James, and afterward to all the apostles.
8 And last of all he was seen also to me, as to a dead born child [as to a mis-born child].
9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not worthy to be called apostle, for I pursued the church of God.
10 But by the grace of God I am that thing that I am; and his grace was not void in me [and his grace was not void, or idle, in me]. For I travailed more plenteously than all they [But I travailed more plenteously than all they]; but not I, but the grace of God with me.
11 But whether I, or they, so we have preached, and so ye have believed.
12 And if Christ is preached, that he rose again from death [from dead], how say some men among you [how say some in you], that the again-rising of dead men is not?
13 And if the again-rising of dead men is not, neither Christ rose again from death [neither Christ rose again].
14 And if Christ rose not, our preaching is vain, our faith is vain.
15 [Forsooth] And we be found false witnesses of God, for we have said witnessing against God, that he raised Christ, whom he raised not, if dead men rise not again.
16 For why if dead men rise not again, neither Christ rose again;
17 and if Christ rose not again, our faith is vain; and yet ye be in your sins.
18 And then they that have died in Christ, have perished. [Therefore and they that slept, or died, in Christ, have perished.]
19 If in this life only we be hoping in Christ, we be more wretches than all men.
20 But now Christ hath risen again from death, the first fruit of dead men; [Now forsooth Christ rose again, from dead, the first fruits of sleeping men;]
21 for death was by a man, and by a man is again-rising from death. [for soothly by a man death, and by a man again-rising of dead.]
22 And as in Adam all men die, so [and] in Christ all men shall be quickened.
23 But each man in his order; the first fruit, Christ [first fruits, Christ], afterward they that be of Christ, that believed in the coming of Christ;
24 afterward an end, when he shall betake the kingdom to God and to the Father, when he shall void all princehood, and power, and virtue.
25 But it behooveth him to reign, till he put all his enemies under his feet.
26 And at the last, death the enemy shall be destroyed; [Forsooth at the last, the enemy death shall be destroyed;]
27 for he hath made subject all things under his feet. And when he saith, all things be subject to him, without doubt except him that subjected all things to him.
28 And when all things [shall] be subjected to him, then the Son himself shall be subject to him, that made all things subject to him [that subjected all things to him], that God be all things in all things.
29 Else what shall they do, that be baptized for dead men, if in no wise dead men rise again [if in all manner dead men rise not again]? whereto [also] be they baptized for them?
30 And whereto be we in peril every hour?
31 Each day I die for your glory, brethren, which glory I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
32 If after man I have fought to beasts at Ephesus [If after man I have fought to beasts, or against beasts, at Ephesus], what profiteth it to me, if dead men rise not again? Eat we, and drink we, for we shall die to morrow [Eat we, and drink we, to morrow forsooth we shall die].
33 Do not ye be deceived; for evil speeches destroy good conduct. [Do not ye be deceived; forsooth evil speeches corrupt, or destroy, good conduct, or virtues.]
34 Awake ye, just men, and do not ye do sin; for some men have ignorance of God, but to reverence I speak to you. [Wake ye, just, and do not ye sin; forsooth some have ignorance of God, to reverence I speak to you.]
35 But some man saith, How shall dead men rise again, or in what manner body shall they come?
36 [O!] unwise man, that thing that thou sowest, is not quickened, but it die first;
37 and that thing that thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that is to come, but a naked corn, as of wheat, or of some other seeds;
38 and God giveth to it a body, as he will, and to each of seeds a proper body.
39 Not each flesh is the same flesh, but one is of men, another is of beasts, another is of birds, another is of fishes.
40 And there be heavenly bodies, and there be earthly bodies [and earthly bodies]; but one glory is of heavenly bodies, and another is of earthly [bodies].
41 Another clearness is of the sun, another clearness is of the moon, and another clearness is of the stars; and a star diverseth from a star in clearness [forsooth a star diverseth from a star in clearness].
42 And so the again-rising of dead men. It is sown in corruption, it shall rise in uncorruption;
43 it is sown in unnobleness [it is sown in unnobility], it shall rise in glory; it is sown in infirmity, it shall rise in virtue;
44 it is sown a beastly body, it shall rise a spiritual body. If there is a beastly body, there is also a spiritual body;
45 as it is written, The first man Adam was made into a soul living, the last Adam into a spirit quickening.
46 But the first is not that that is spiritual [But not first was that body that is spiritual], but that that is beast-like, afterward that that is spiritual.
47 The first man of earth is earthly; the second man of heaven is heavenly [the second man of heaven is heaven-like].
48 Such as the earthly man is, such be [and] the earthly men; and such as the heavenly man is, such be also the heavenly men.
49 Therefore as we have borne the image of the earthly man, bear we also the image of the heavenly man [bear we and the image of the heavenly].
50 Brethren, I say this thing, that flesh and blood be not able to wield the kingdom of God, neither corruption shall wield uncorruption. [Brethren, I say this thing, that flesh and blood may not wield the kingdom of God, neither corruption shall wield incorruption.]
51 Lo! I say to you private of holy things [Lo! I say to you mystery, or private, of holy things]. And all we shall rise again, but not all we shall be changed;
52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, in the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and dead men shall rise again, without corruption [forsooth the trump shall sing, and dead men shall rise again, incorrupt], and we shall be changed.
53 For it behooveth this corruptible thing to clothe uncorruption, and this deadly thing to put away undeadliness. [For it behooveth this corruptible thing for to clothe incorruption, and this deadly thing for to cloth undeadliness.]
54 But when this deadly thing shall clothe undeadliness, then shall the word be done, that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory[c].
55 Death, where is thy victory? Death, where is thy prick?
56 But the prick of death is sin; and the virtue of sin is the law.
57 But do we thankings to God [Forsooth thankings to God], that gave to us victory by our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear-worthy brethren, be ye steadfast, and unmoveable, being plenteous in work of the Lord, evermore witting that your travail is not idle in the Lord.

15 Ora, fratelli, vi dichiaro l'evangelo che vi ho annunziato, e che voi avete ricevuto e nel quale state saldi,
2 e mediante il quale siete salvati, se ritenete fermamente quella parola che vi ho annunziato, a meno che non abbiate creduto invano.
3 Infatti vi ho prima di tutto trasmesso ciò che ho anch'io ricevuto, e cioè che Cristo è morto per i nostri peccati secondo le Scritture,
4 che fu sepolto e risuscitò a il terzo giorno secondo le Scritture,
5 e che apparve a Cefa e poi ai dodici.
6 In seguito apparve in una sola volta a piú di cinquecento fratelli, la maggior parte dei quali è ancora in vita, mentre alcuni dormono già.
7 Successivamente apparve a Giacomo e poi a tutti gli apostoli insieme.
8 Infine, ultimo di tutti, apparve anche a me come all'aborto.
9 Io infatti sono il minimo degli apostoli e non sono neppure degno di essere chiamato apostolo, perché ho perseguitato la chiesa di Dio.
10 Ma per la grazia di Dio sono quello che sono; e la sua grazia verso di me non è stata vana, anzi ho faticato piú di tutti loro non io però, ma la grazia di Dio che è con me.
11 Or dunque, sia io che loro, cosí predichiamo, e cosí voi avete creduto.
12 Ora, se si predica che Cristo è risuscitato dai morti, come mai alcuni di voi dicono che non c'è la risurrezione dei morti?
13 Se dunque non c'è la risurrezione dei morti, neppure Cristo è risuscitato.
14 Ma se Cristo non è risuscitato, è dunque vana la nostra predicazione ed è vana anche la vostra fede.
15 Inoltre noi ci troveremo ad essere falsi testimoni di Dio, poiché abbiamo testimoniato di Dio, che egli ha risuscitato Cristo, mentre non l'avrebbe risuscitato, se veramente i morti non risuscitano.
16 Se infatti i morti non risuscitano, neppure Cristo è stato risuscitato;
17 ma se Cristo non è stato risuscitato, vana è la vostra fede, voi siete ancora nei vostri peccati,
18 e anche quelli che dormono in Cristo sono perduti.
19 Se noi speriamo in Cristo solo in questa vita, noi siamo i piú miserabili di tutti gli uomini.
20 Ma ora Cristo è stato risuscitato dai morti, ed è la primizia di coloro che dormono.
21 Infatti, siccome per mezzo di un uomo è venuta la morte, cosí anche per mezzo di un uomo è venuta la risurrezione dei morti.
22 Perché, come tutti muoiono in Adamo, cosí tutti saranno vivificati in Cristo.
23 ma ciascuno nel proprio ordine: Cristo la primizia, poi coloro che sono di Cristo alla sua venuta.
24 Poi verrà la fine, quando rimetterà il regno nelle mani di Dio Padre, dopo aver annientato ogni dominio, ogni potestà e potenza.
25 Bisogna infatti che egli regni, finché non abbia messo tutti i nemici sotto i suoi piedi.
26 L'ultimo nemico che sarà distrutto è la morte.
27 Dio infatti ha posto ogni cosa sotto i suoi piedi. Quando però dice che ogni cosa gli è sottoposta, è chiaro che ne è eccettuato colui che gli ha sottoposto ogni cosa.
28 E quando ogni cosa gli sarà sottoposta, allora il Figlio sarà anch'egli sottoposto a colui che gli ha sottoposto ogni cosa, affinché Dio sia tutto in tutti.
29 Altrimenti che faranno quelli che sono battezzati per i morti? Se i morti non risuscitano affatto, perché dunque sono essi battezzati per i morti?
30 Perché siamo anche noi in pericolo ad ogni ora?
31 Io muoio ogni giorno per il vanto di voi, che ho in Cristo Gesú nostro Signore.
32 Se ho combattuto in Efeso con le fiere per motivi umani, che utile ne ho io? Se i morti non risuscitano, mangiamo e beviamo, perché domani morremo.
33 Non vi ingannate; le cattive compagnie corrompono i buoni costumi.
34 Ritornate ad essere sobri e retti e non peccate, perché alcuni non hanno conoscenza di Dio; lo dico a vostra vergogna.
35 Ma dirà qualcuno: «Come risuscitano i morti, e con quale corpo verranno?».
36 Stolto! Quello che tu semini non è vivificato, se prima non muore.
37 E quanto a quello che semini, tu non semini il corpo che ha da nascere, ma un granello ignudo, che può essere di frumento o di qualche altro seme.
38 E Dio gli dà un corpo come ha stabilito, e a ciascun seme dà il suo proprio corpo.
39 Non ogni carne è la stessa carne; ma altra è la carne degli uomini, altra la carne delle bestie, altra la carne dei pesci, altra la carne degli uccelli.
40 Vi sono anche dei corpi celesti, e dei corpi terrestri, ma altra è la gloria dei celesti, altra quella dei terrestri.
41 Altro è lo splendore del sole, altro lo splendore della luna ed altro lo splendore delle stelle, perché una stella differisce da un'altra stella in splendore.
42 Cosí sarà pure la risurrezione dei morti; il corpo è seminato corruttibile e risuscita incorruttibile.
43 E' seminato ignobile e risuscita glorioso; è seminato debole e risuscita pieno di forza.
44 E' seminato corpo naturale, e risuscita corpo spirituale. Vi è corpo naturale, e vi è corpo spirituale.
45 Cosí sta anche scritto: «Il primo uomo, Adamo, divenne anima vivente» ma l'ultimo Adamo è Spirito che dà la vita.
46 Ma lo spirituale non è prima bensí prima è il naturale, poi lo spirituale.
47 Il primo uomo, tratto dalla terra, è terrestre; il secondo uomo, che è il Signore, è dal cielo.
48 Qual è il terrestre tali sono anche i terrestri; e qual è il celeste, tali saranno anche i celesti.
49 E come abbiamo portato l'immagine del terrestre, porteremo anche l'immagine del celeste.
50 Or questo dico, fratelli, che la carne e il sangue non possono ereditare il regno di Dio; similmente la corruzione non eredita l'incorruttibilità.
51 Ecco, io vi dico un mistero: non tutti morremo, ma tutti saremo mutati in un momento,
52 in un batter d'occhio, al suono dell'ultima tromba; la tromba infatti suonerà, i morti risusciteranno incorruttibili e noi saremo mutati,
53 poiché bisogna che questo corruttibile rivesta l'incorruttibilità e questo mortale rivesta l'immortalità.
54 Cosí quando questo corruttibile avrà rivestito l'incorruttibilità e questo mortale avrà rivestito l'immortalità, allora sarà adempiuta la parola che fu scritta: «La morte è stata inghiottita nella vittoria».
55 O morte, dov'è il tuo dardo? O inferno, dov'è la tua vittoria?
56 Ora il dardo della morte è il peccato, e la forza del peccato è la legge.
57 Ma ringraziato sia Dio che ci dà la vittoria per mezzo del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo.
58 Perciò, fratelli miei carissimi, state saldi, irremovibili, abbondando del continuo nell'opera del Signore, sapendo che la vostra fatica non è vana nel Signore.

The Resurrection of Christ
15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel(A) I preached to you,(B) which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved,(C) if you hold firmly(D) to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received(E) I passed on to you(F) as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins(G) according to the Scriptures,(H) 4 that he was buried,(I) that he was raised(J) on the third day(K) according to the Scriptures,(L) 5 and that he appeared to Cephas,[b](M) and then to the Twelve.(N) 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.(O) 7 Then he appeared to James,(P) then to all the apostles,(Q) 8 and last of all he appeared to me also,(R) as to one abnormally born.
9 For I am the least of the apostles(S) and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted(T) the church of God.(U) 10 But by the grace(V) of God I am what I am, and his grace to me(W) was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them(X)—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.(Y) 11 Whether, then, it is I or they,(Z) this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.
The Resurrection of the Dead
12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead,(AA) how can some of you say that there is no resurrection(AB) of the dead?(AC) 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised,(AD) our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead.(AE) But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.(AF) 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep(AG) in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.(AH)
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,(AI) the firstfruits(AJ) of those who have fallen asleep.(AK) 21 For since death came through a man,(AL) the resurrection of the dead(AM) comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.(AN) 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits;(AO) then, when he comes,(AP) those who belong to him.(AQ) 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom(AR) to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.(AS) 25 For he must reign(AT) until he has put all his enemies under his feet.(AU) 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.(AV) 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.”[c](AW) Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.(AX) 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him,(AY) so that God may be all in all.(AZ)
29 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? 30 And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour?(BA) 31 I face death every day(BB)—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts(BC) in Ephesus(BD) with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised,
33 Do not be misled:(BF) “Bad company corrupts good character.”[e](BG) 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God(BH)—I say this to your shame.(BI)
The Resurrection Body
35 But someone will ask,(BJ) “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?”(BK) 36 How foolish!(BL) What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.(BM) 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.(BN) 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor,(BO) the moon another and the stars another;(BP) and star differs from star in splendor.
42 So will it be(BQ) with the resurrection of the dead.(BR) The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;(BS) 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory;(BT) it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.(BU)
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[f];(BV) the last Adam,(BW) a life-giving spirit.(BX) 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.(BY) 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth;(BZ) the second man is of heaven.(CA) 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.(CB) 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man,(CC) so shall we[g] bear the image of the heavenly man.(CD)
50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood(CE) cannot inherit the kingdom of God,(CF) nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.(CG) 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery:(CH) We will not all sleep,(CI) but we will all be changed(CJ)— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,(CK) the dead(CL) will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable(CM) must clothe itself with the imperishable,(CN) and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[h](CO)
56 The sting of death is sin,(CQ) and the power of sin is the law.(CR) 57 But thanks be to God!(CS) He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.(CT)
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,(CU) because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.(CV)
