^43 (A)It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. ⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. ⁴⁵ And so it is written, ^(B)“The first man Adam became a living being.” ^(C)The last Adam became ^(D)a life-giving spirit.

^13 (A)In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

The Heavenly Sanctuary

¹¹ But Christ came as High Priest of ^(A)the good things ^[a]to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. ¹² Not ^(B)with the blood of goats and calves, but ^(C)with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place ^(D)once for all, ^(E)having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³ For if ^(F)the blood of bulls and goats and ^(G)the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, ^[b]sanctifies for the ^[c]purifying of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without ^[d]spot to God, ^(H)cleanse your conscience from ^(I)dead works ^(J)to serve the living God? ¹⁵ And for this reason ^(K)He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that ^(L)those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Animal Sacrifices Insufficient

10 For the law, having a ^(A)shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, ^(B)can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. ² For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once ^[a]purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. ³ But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. ⁴ For ^(C)it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Christ’s Death Fulfills God’s Will^(D)

⁵ Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

⁸ Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), ⁹ then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, ^[b]O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. ^10 (F)By that will we have been ^[c]sanctified ^(G)through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Christ’s Death Perfects the Sanctified

¹¹ And every priest stands ^(H)ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. ^12 (I)But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down ^(J)at the right hand of God, ¹³ from that time waiting ^(K)till His enemies are made His footstool. ¹⁴ For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being ^[d]sanctified.

¹⁵ But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,

^16 (L)“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” ¹⁷ then He adds, ^(M)“Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

^[a]THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’

¹⁷ “For thus says the Lord: ‘David shall never ^(D)lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; ¹⁸ nor shall the ^(E)priests, the Levites, lack a man to ^(F)offer burnt offerings before Me, to ^[b]kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’ ”

The Permanence of God’s Covenant

¹⁹ And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁰ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, ²¹ then ^(G)My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers. ²² As ^(H)the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I ^(I)multiply the descendants of David My servant and the ^(J)Levites who minister to Me.’ ”

²³ Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, ²⁴ “Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have ^(K)despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

²⁵ “Thus says the Lord: ‘If ^(L)My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not ^(M)appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ^26 (N)then I will ^(O)cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’ ”
