⁴ that he was buried,^(A) that he was raised^(B) on the third day^(C) according to the Scriptures,^(D)

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish,^(A) so the Son of Man^(B) will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.^(C)

²² But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen^(A)— ²³ that the Messiah would suffer^(B) and, as the first to rise from the dead,^(C) would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”^(D)

²⁹ When they had carried out all that was written about him,^(A) they took him down from the cross^(B) and laid him in a tomb.^{(C) 30} But God raised him from the dead,^{(D) 31} and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem.^(E) They are now his witnesses^(F) to our people.

³² “We tell you the good news:^(G) What God promised our ancestors^{(H) 33} he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus.^(I) As it is written in the second Psalm:

³⁴ God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said,

³⁵ So it is also stated elsewhere:

³⁶ “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep;^(M) he was buried with his ancestors^(N) and his body decayed. ³⁷ But the one whom God raised from the dead^(O) did not see decay.

Jonah’s Prayer

¹⁷ Now the Lord provided^(A) a huge fish to swallow Jonah,^(B) and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
