1 Corinthians 13:8-14:5
Christian Standard Bible
8 Love never ends.(A) But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things. 12 For now we see only a reflection[a] as in a mirror, but then face to face.(B) Now I know in part, but then I will know fully,(C) as I am fully known.(D) 13 Now these three remain: faith, hope,(E) and love—but the greatest of these is love.
Prophecy: A Superior Gift
14 Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. 2 For the person who speaks in a tongue[b](F) is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands him; he speaks mysteries in the Spirit.[c] 3 On the other hand, the person who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,[d] encouragement, and consolation. 4 The person who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 I wish all of you spoke in tongues,[e] but even more that you prophesied. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be built up.
