ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କ ଭଳି ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ
10 ଭାଇ ଓ ଭଉଣୀମାନେ! ମୁଁ ଇଚ୍ଛା କରେ ଯେ, ଆମ୍ଭର ପିତୃପୁରୁଷମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି (ଯେଉଁମାନେ ମୋଶାଙ୍କୁ ଅନୁସରଣ କରିଥିଲେ) କ’ଣ ହେଲା ତାହା ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଜାଣି ରଖ। ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ମେଘ ସ୍ତମ୍ଭ ଦ୍ୱାରା ସୁଫ ସାଗରକୁ ପାର କରାଇଥିଲେ। 2 ସେମାନେ ମେଘ ଓ ସମୁଦ୍ରରେ ମୋଶାଙ୍କ ଅନୁଗାମୀ ଭାବେ ଡୁବିତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ। 3 ସେମାନେ ଏକମାତ୍ର ଆଧ୍ୟାତ୍ମିକ ଶୈଳ ସଦୃଶ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କଠାରୁ ସମାନ ଆତ୍ମିକ ଭୋଜନ କରିଥିଲେ। 4 ଓ ସମସ୍ତେ ସମାନ ଆତ୍ମିକ ପାନୀୟରୁ ପାନ କରିଥିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ସେହି ଆତ୍ମିକ ପଥରରୁ ବାହାରିବା ପାଣି ପିଇଥିଲେ। ସେହି ପଥର ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ ଥିଲେ। 5 କିନ୍ତୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ ଅଧିକଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ନ ଥିଲେ। ସେଥିପାଇଁ ସେମାନେ ମରୁ ପ୍ରାନ୍ତରରେ ମରିଗଲେ।
6 ଏହି ଘଟଣାଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଆମ୍ଭ ପାଇଁ ଦୃଷ୍ଟାନ୍ତ ସ୍ୱରୂପ ଅଛି, ଅତଏବ ଆମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭଳି ମନ୍ଦ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଇଚ୍ଛା କରିବା ନାହିଁ। 7 ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରେ କେତେକଙ୍କ ଭଳି ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିପୂଜା କର ନାହିଁ। ଶାସ୍ତ୍ର କୁହେ: “ଲୋକେ ଖାଇବା ଓ ପିଇବା ପାଇଁ ବସିଲେ ଓ ନାଚିବା ପାଇଁ ଉଠିଲେ।”(A) 8 ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ ଯେପରି କେତେକ ଯୌନଗତ ପାପ କଲେ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ସେଭଳି କେବେ କରିବା ନାହିଁ। ସେମାନେ ପାପ କରିଥିବା ହେତୁରୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ 23,000 ଲୋକ ଗୋଟିଏ ଦିନରେ ମରିଗଲେ। 9 ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭଳି ଆମ୍ଭେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କୁ ପରୀକ୍ଷା କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍ ନୁହେଁ। ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ କରିଥିବାରୁ ସେମାନେ ସାପ କାମୁଡ଼ାରେ ମଲେ। 10 ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଭିତରୁ କେତେକଙ୍କ ଭଳି ଆପତ୍ତି ଅଭିଯୋଗ କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍ ନୁହେଁ। ଏହି ଅଭିଯୋଗକାରୀମାନେ ବିନାଶକାରୀ (ସ୍ୱର୍ଗଦୂତ) ଙ୍କ ହାତରେ ମଲେ।
11 ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ଯାହା ଘଟିଲା, ତାହା ଆମପାଇଁ ଉଦାହରଣସ୍ୱରୂପ। ସମସ୍ତ ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ଇତିହାସରେ ଅନ୍ତିମ ସମୟରେ, ଆମ୍ଭେ ଜୀବନଧାରଣ କରୁଛୁ। ଏହା ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଚେତନା ଦେବା ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଲେଖା ଯାଇଛି। 12 ଅତଏବ, ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ଭାବୁଛି ଯେ, ସେ ଦୃଢ଼ ଭାବରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଛି, ଯେପରି ସେ ଖସି ନ ପଡ଼େ ଏଥିପାଇଁ ସତର୍କ ରହୁ। 13 କେବଳ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ଯେସବୁ ପରୀକ୍ଷା ଆସୁଅଛି, ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକଙ୍କ ନିମନ୍ତେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏପରି ପରୀକ୍ଷା ଆସିଥାଏ। କିନ୍ତୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କଠାରେ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିପାର। ସେ କେବେ ହେଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଅସହ୍ୟ ପରୀକ୍ଷାରେ ପଡ଼ିବାକୁ ଦେବେ ନାହିଁ। କିନ୍ତୁ ଯେତେବେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପ୍ରଲୋଭନର (ପରୀକ୍ଷାର) ସମ୍ମୁଖୀନ ହେବ, ସେତେବେଳେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ରକ୍ଷା ପାଇବାର ବାଟ ମଧ୍ୟ ଦେଖାଇ ଦେବେ।
14 ତା'ହେଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ସମସ୍ତ କିଛି ସହି ପାରିବ। ମୋର ପ୍ରିୟ ବନ୍ଧୁଗଣ! ଶେଷରେ ମୁଁ କହୁଛି ଯେ, ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ପୂଜାରୁ ଦୂରରେ ରୁହ। 15 ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ବୁଦ୍ଧିମାନ, ତେଣୁ ମୁଁ ଏହା କହୁଛି। ମୁଁ ଯାହା କହୁଛି, ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ନିଜେ ପରୀକ୍ଷା କରି ଦେଖ। 16 ଯେଉଁ ଆଶୀର୍ବାଦର ପିଆଲା ପାଇଁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ଅର୍ପଣ କରୁ, ତହିଁରେ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କ ରକ୍ତର ସହଭାଗୀ ହେଉ ନାହୁଁ କି? ଯେଉଁ ରୋଟୀ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଭାଙ୍ଗୁ ତାହା ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟଙ୍କ ଶରୀରରେ ଅଂଶ ନୁହେଁ କି? 17 କେବଳ ଗୋଟିଏ ରୋଟୀ ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଅନେକ ଲୋକ। କିନ୍ତୁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ସମସ୍ତେ ସେହି ଗୋଟିଏ ରୋଟୀକୁ ଭାଗ ଭାଗ କରି ଖାଉ। ସେଥିପାଇଁ ଆମ୍ଭେ ପ୍ରକୃତରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଶରୀର।
18 ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ କଥା ଭାବ। ସେମାନେ ବଳି ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ପଶୁ ମାଂସ ଭୋଜନ କରି କ’ଣ ବେଦୀର ଅଂଶୀଦାର ନୁହନ୍ତି? 19 ମୁଁ କହୁ ନାହିଁ ଯେ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ବା ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗୀକୃତ ଖାଦ୍ୟର ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱ ଅଛି। ଏବଂ ମୁଁ ଏହା ମଧ୍ୟ କହୁ ନାହିଁ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଗୁଡ଼ିକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ। 20 କିନ୍ତୁ ମୋ’ କହିବା କଥା ଯେ, ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଭୂତମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ କୌଣସି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ଅଂଶ ଗ୍ରହଣ ନ କର। କିନ୍ତୁ ମୁଁ କୁହେ ଯାହା ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ବଳି ରୂପେ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କରାଯାଇଥାଏ ତାହା ଶୟତାନକୁ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗ କରାଯାଇଥାଏ, ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କରୁ ନୁହେଁ। ଏବଂ ମୁଁ ଗ୍ଭହେଁ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଶୟତାନ ସହିତ ଅଂଶୀଦାର ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ। 21 ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ପିଆଲାରୁ[a] ଓ ଶୟତାନର ପିଆଲାରୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ପିଇ ପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। ସେହିପରି ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ମେଜ ଓ ଶୟତାନର ମେଜ ଉଭୟର ଅଂଶୀଦାର ହୋଇ ବସି ପାରିବ ନାହିଁ। 22 ଆମ୍ଭେ କ’ଣ ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ ବିରକ୍ତ କରିବାକୁ ଇଚ୍ଛା କରୁ? ଆମ୍ଭେ କ’ଣ ତାହାଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ବଳବାନ? ନା!
ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ଗୌରବ ପାଇଁ ନିଜ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତାର ବ୍ୟବହାର କର
23 “ଆମ୍ଭେ ସବୁ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ପାଇଛୁ।” କିନ୍ତୁ ସବୁ ବିଷୟ ଭଲ ନୁହେଁ। “ଆମ୍ଭେ ସବୁ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ପାଇଛୁ।” କିନ୍ତୁ କେତେକ ବିଷୟ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କ ବିଶ୍ୱାସକୁ ଦୃଢ଼ କରିବାରେ ସାହାଯ୍ୟ କରେ ନାହିଁ। 24 କୌଣସି ଲୋକ କେବଳ ନିଜର ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥ ପାଇଁ ଚିନ୍ତିତ ହେବା ଉଚିତ୍ ନୁହେଁ, ବରଂ ସେ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କର ମଙ୍ଗଳ ଚିନ୍ତା କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍।
25 ବଜାରରେ ଯାହା ବିକ୍ରି ହେଉଛି ସେସବୁ ମାଂସ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଖାଇପାର। ନିଜ ବିବେକ ସକାଶେ ଏହି ମାଂସ ଖାଇବା ଉଚିତ୍ କି ନୁହେଁ, ସେ ବିଷୟରେ କୌଣସି ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ ପଗ୍ଭର ନାହିଁ। 26 ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଖାଇପାର କାରଣ “ପୃଥିବୀ ଓ ତନ୍ମଧ୍ୟସ୍ଥ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ବିଷୟ ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ଅଟେ।”(B)
27 ଜଣେ ଅବିଶ୍ୱାସୀ ଲୋକ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଭୋଜନ ପାଇଁ ଡାକିପାରେ। ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଯିବାକୁ ସ୍ଥିର କଲ, ଯାହା ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଆଗରେ ଥୁଆ ହୋଇଛି, ତାହା ଖାଅ। 28 ଏହା ଭଲ କି ମନ୍ଦ କୌଣସି ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ ନ କରି ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଭୋଜନ କର। କିନ୍ତୁ ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଜଣେ କୁହେ: “ଏହି ଖାଦ୍ୟ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଉତ୍ସର୍ଗୀକୃତ ହୋଇଛି।” ତାହାହେଲେ ସେ ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଖାଅ ନାହିଁ। ପ୍ରଥମ କାରଣ ହେଲା, ଯିଏ ଏହା କହିଛି ତା'ର ବିଶ୍ୱାସକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଆଘାତ ନ ଦେବା ପାଇଁ ଖାଅ ନାହିଁ ଓ ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ କାରଣ ହେଲା ଏହି ମାଂସ ବା ପ୍ରସାଦ ଖାଇବା ଅନୁଚିତ୍ ବୋଲି କେତେକ ମତ ଦିଅନ୍ତି। 29 ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଏହାକୁ ଭୁଲ୍ ବିବେଚନା କର ବୋଲି ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ କହୁ ନାହିଁ କିନ୍ତୁ ଅନ୍ୟ ଲୋକ ଏହାକୁ ବିବେଚନା କରୁ ଥିବାରୁ ମୁଁ ଏହାକୁ ଖାଇବି ନାହିଁ। ଅନ୍ୟର ମନୋଭାବ ହେତୁ ମୋ’ ନିଜର ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତାରେ ଆଞ୍ଚ ଆଣିବାକୁ ଇଚ୍ଛା କରୁ ନାହିଁ। 30 କାରଣ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କୁ ଧନ୍ୟବାଦ ଦେଇ ସାରି ଭୋଜନ କରିଥିବା ଯୋଗୁଁ ମୁଁ ସମାଲୋଚିତ ହେବା ଅନୁଚିତ୍।
31 ଅତଏବ, ଯେତେବେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଖାଅ, ପିଅ ବା ଅନ୍ୟ ଯାହାକିଛି କର, ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ମହିମା ପାଇଁ କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍। 32 ଏଭଳି କୌଣସି କାମ କର ନାହିଁ, ଯାହାଦ୍ୱାରା ଯିହୂଦୀ ବା ଅଣଯିହୂଦୀ ଲୋକେ ବା ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ମଣ୍ଡଳୀ ବାଧା ପାଇବେ। 33 ମୁଁ ଏହି ନୀତି ଅନୁସରଣ କରେ। ମୁଁ ନିଜକୁ ଖୁସୀ ରଖିବା ପାଇଁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରେ ନାହିଁ, ମାତ୍ର ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକଙ୍କୁ ସମସ୍ତ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ କରିବାକୁ ଗ୍ଭହେଁ। ମୁଁ ଅନେକଙ୍କର ମଙ୍ଗଳ ଚିନ୍ତାକରେ ଯଦ୍ଦ୍ୱାରା ସେମାନେ ପରିତ୍ରାଣ ପାଇ ପାରିବେ।

10 Thưa anh chị em, tôi muốn anh chị em nhớ rằng tổ phụ chúng ta tất cả đã ở dưới đám mây và tất cả cũng đã đi ngang qua biển. 2 Tất cả đều nhân danh Môi-se mà chịu phép báp-tem trong đám mây và dưới biển. 3 Tất cả cũng đã ăn cùng một thức ăn thiêng liêng, 4 và tất cả đã uống cùng một thứ nước thiêng liêng. Vì họ đã uống nước từ tảng đá thiêng liêng đi theo họ, tảng đá đó chính là Chúa Cứu Thế. 5 Nhưng đa số tổ phụ không đẹp lòng Đức Chúa Trời cho nên đã bỏ xác trong đồng hoang.
6 Những điều này trở thành một bài học để cảnh cáo chúng ta chớ có ham muốn điều ác như họ. 7 Cũng đừng trở nên những kẻ thờ thần tượng như một số người trong họ. Như Kinh Thánh chép: “Dân chúng ngồi xuống ăn uống rồi đứng lên vui chơi trụy lạc.”[a]
8 Chúng ta cũng không nên dâm dục như một số người trong họ đã dâm dục nên trong một ngày mà hai mươi ba ngàn người ngã gục. 9 Chúng ta cũng không nên thử Chúa Cứu Thế như một số người trong họ đã thử nên bị rắn hủy diệt. 10 Cũng đừng lằm bằm oán trách như một số người trong họ đã oán trách rồi bị thần chết hủy diệt.
11 Những điều này đã xảy ra cho họ như là một bài học và cũng được ghi chép lại để làm gương cảnh cáo chúng ta, là những người đang sống vào thời đại cuối cùng này. 12 Thế thì, ai tưởng mình đứng vững, hãy cẩn thận kẻo ngã. 13 Chẳng có cơn cám dỗ nào đã chinh phục anh chị em mà vượt quá sức loài người. Nhưng Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng thành tín, Ngài sẽ không để anh chị em bị cám dỗ quá sức mình, nhưng trong khi bị cám dỗ sẽ mở lối thoát để anh chị em có thể chịu đựng được.
14 Vì vậy, anh chị em yêu dấu của tôi, hãy tránh thờ thần tượng. 15 Tôi nói với anh chị em như nói với những người khôn ngoan. Hãy suy xét những điều tôi nói. 16 Chén tiệc thánh mà chúng ta cảm tạ không phải là chén thông công với huyết của Chúa Cứu Thế sao? Bánh mà chúng ta bẻ không phải là bánh thông công với thân thể của Chúa Cứu Thế sao? 17 Vì chỉ có một ổ bánh, chúng ta dù nhiều người vẫn là một thân thể, vì tất cả chúng ta cùng dự phần trong một ổ bánh.
18 Hãy xem người Y-sơ-ra-ên theo huyết thống! Không phải những kẻ ăn đồ dâng tế thông công với bàn thờ sao? 19 Thế thì tại sao tôi nói như thế? Vì của cúng thần tượng là gì hay thần tượng là gì đâu? 20 Vì khi người ta dâng tế là dâng tế các quỷ, không phải Đức Chúa Trời. Tôi không muốn anh chị em thành kẻ dự phần thông công với các quỷ. 21 Anh chị em không thể uống chén của Chúa cùng chén của các quỷ. Anh chị em không thể ăn chung bàn với Chúa và với các quỷ. 22 Hay chúng ta muốn khiêu khích Chúa? Chúng ta mạnh hơn Ngài sao?
Hãy Hành Động Cho Vinh Quang Chúa
23 Mọi sự đều được phép làm, nhưng không phải mọi sự đều hữu ích. Mọi sự đều được phép làm nhưng không phải mọi sự đều xây dựng. 24 Đừng tìm kiếm lợi riêng cho mình nhưng hãy tìm lợi cho người khác nữa. 25 Hãy ăn bất cứ những gì bày bán nơi chợ, đừng vì lương tâm mà thắc mắc. 26 Vì cả trái đất và mọi vật đều thuộc về Chúa.
27 Nếu có ai không tin Chúa mời anh chị em, và anh chị em muốn đi, hãy ăn tất cả những gì dọn ra bàn, lương tâm không phải thắc mắc gì. 28 Nhưng nếu có người bảo đây là đồ cúng thì anh chị em đừng ăn vì người ấy đã cho biết và cũng vì lương tâm. 29 Tôi không có ý nói lương tâm anh chị em nhưng lương tâm người ấy. Vì tại sao sự tự do của tôi lại bị lương tâm người khác đoán xét? 30 Nếu tôi tạ ơn mà ăn, tại sao tôi lại bị trách vì món ăn tôi đã tạ ơn.
31 Vậy thì, hoặc ăn, hoặc uống hay làm việc gì hãy vì vinh quang của Chúa mà làm. 32 Đừng xúc phạm người Do Thái hay người Hy Lạp hay Hội Thánh Đức Chúa Trời. 33 Hãy như tôi, cố làm vui lòng mọi người, không tìm kiếm lợi ích riêng, nhưng lợi ích cho nhiều người để họ có thể được cứu rỗi.

10 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under (A)the cloud, all passed through (B)the sea, 2 all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 all ate the same (C)spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same (D)spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies (E)were scattered in the wilderness.
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as (F)they also lusted. 7 (G)And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, (H)“The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 (I)Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as (J)some of them did, and (K)in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us [a]tempt Christ, as (L)some of them also tempted, and (M)were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as (N)some of them also complained, and (O)were destroyed by (P)the destroyer. 11 Now [b]all these things happened to them as examples, and (Q)they were written for our [c]admonition, (R)upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore (S)let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but (T)God is faithful, (U)who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to [d]bear it.
Flee from Idolatry
14 Therefore, my beloved, (V)flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to (W)wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 (X)The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the [e]communion of the blood of Christ? (Y)The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For (Z)we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.
18 Observe (AA)Israel (AB)after the flesh: (AC)Are not those who eat of the sacrifices [f]partakers of the altar? 19 What am I saying then? (AD)That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles (AE)sacrifice (AF)they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 (AG)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and (AH)the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the (AI)Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we (AJ)provoke the Lord to jealousy? 25 (AO)Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for (AP)“the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.”
27 If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, (AQ)eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake. 28 But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it (AR)for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; [i]for (AS)“the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 29 “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For (AT)why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience? 30 But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food (AU)over which I give thanks?

10 For I do not want you to be ignorant(A) of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud(B) and that they all passed through the sea.(C) 2 They were all baptized into(D) Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 3 They all ate the same spiritual food(E) 4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock(F) that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.(G)
6 Now these things occurred as examples(H) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters,(I) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](J) 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.(K) 9 We should not test Christ,[b](L) as some of them did—and were killed by snakes.(M) 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did(N)—and were killed(O) by the destroying angel.(P)

Idol Feasts and the Lord’s Supper
14 Therefore, my dear friends,(W) flee from idolatry.(X) 15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break(Y) a participation in the body of Christ?(Z) 17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body,(AA) for we all share the one loaf.
18 Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices(AB) participate in the altar? 19 Do I mean then that food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything?(AC) 20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons,(AD) not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.(AE) 22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?(AF) Are we stronger than he?(AG)
The Believer’s Freedom
23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.(AH) “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.(AI)
25 Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience,(AJ) 26 for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”[f](AK)
27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you(AL) without raising questions of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience.(AM) 29 I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom(AN) being judged by another’s conscience? 30 If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?(AO)
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.(AP) 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble,(AQ) whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God(AR)— 33 even as I try to please everyone in every way.(AS) For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many,(AT) so that they may be saved.(AU)
