1 Corinthians 1:26-31

26 Consider your own call, brothers and sisters:[a] not many of you were wise by human standards,[b] not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, 29 so that no one[c] might boast in the presence of God. 30 He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in[d] the Lord.”

26 Seht doch eure Berufung an, ihr Brüder! Da sind nicht viele Weise nach dem Fleisch, nicht viele Mächtige, nicht viele Vornehme;
27 sondern das Törichte der Welt hat Gott erwählt, um die Weisen zuschanden zu machen, und das Schwache der Welt hat Gott erwählt, um das Starke zuschanden zu machen;
28 und das Unedle der Welt und das Verachtete hat Gott erwählt, und das, was nichts ist, damit er zunichtemache, was etwas ist,
29 damit sich vor ihm kein Fleisch[a] rühme.

26 Testvéreim, amikor Isten elhívott benneteket, nem sokan voltak közöttetek — emberi megítélés szerint — bölcsek, hatalmasok, vagy előkelő származásúak. Gondolkozzatok el ezen! 27 Mert Isten azokat választotta, akiket ez a világ bolondoknak tart, hogy ezáltal megszégyenítse a bölcseket. Azokat választotta, akiket a világ gyengének tekint, hogy megszégyenítse azokat, akiket erősnek tartanak. 28 Azokat választotta, akiket a világ megvet és semmibe vesz, hogy semmivé tegye azokat, akiket a világ sokra tart. 29 Mindezt Isten azért tette, hogy előtte senki ne dicsekedhessen!

26 Considérez donc, frères et sœurs, la situation dans laquelle Dieu vous a appelés à lui. On ne trouve parmi vous que peu de sages selon les critères humains, peu de personnalités influentes, peu de membres de la haute société ! 27 Non ! Dieu a choisi ce que le monde considère comme une folie pour confondre les sages, et il a choisi ce qui est faible pour couvrir de honte les puissants.
28 Dieu a porté son choix sur ce qui n’a aucune noblesse et que le monde méprise, sur ce qui est considéré comme insignifiant, pour réduire à néant ce que le monde estime important.
29 Ainsi, aucune créature ne pourra se vanter devant Dieu. 30 Par lui, vous êtes unis à Christ, qui est devenu pour nous cette sagesse qui vient de Dieu, justice, purification et délivrance. 31 Et il en est ainsi pour que soit respecté ce commandement de l’Ecriture :
Celui qui veut éprouver de la fierté,
qu’il place sa fierté dans le Seigneur[a] .
