³ But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,^(A) encouraging^(B) and comfort.

²⁴ But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, ²⁵ as the secrets^(A) of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”^(B)

²⁹ Two or three prophets^(A) should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.^{(B) 30} And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop.

¹⁹ Do not quench the Spirit.^{(A) 20} Do not treat prophecies^(B) with contempt ²¹ but test them all;^(C) hold on to what is good,^{(D) 22} reject every kind of evil.

¹⁰ The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

¹¹ He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven^(A) has been given to you,^(B) but not to them. ¹² Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.^{(C) 13} This is why I speak to them in parables:
