⁶ Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living?

⁷ For you yourselves know ^(A)how you ought to imitate us, because ^(B)we were not idle when we were with you, ⁸ nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but ^(C)with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. ⁹ It was ^(D)not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves ^(E)an example to imitate.

Barnabas and Saul Sent Off

13 Now there were in the church at Antioch ^(A)prophets and ^(B)teachers, ^(C)Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,^[a] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of ^(D)Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. ² While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, ^(E)the Holy Spirit said, ^(F)“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul ^(G)for the work to which I have called them.”

⁹ For you remember, brothers, ^(A)our labor and toil: we ^(B)worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

³ and ^(A)because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.

³⁶ Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means ^(A)son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus,

¹¹ To the present hour ^(A)we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and ^(B)buffeted and ^(C)homeless, ¹² and we ^(D)labor, working with our own hands. ^(E)When reviled, we bless; ^(F)when persecuted, we endure;

^34 (A)You yourselves know that ^(B)these hands ministered to my necessities and ^(C)to those who were with me. ³⁵ In all things ^(D)I have shown you that ^(E)by working hard in this way we must ^(F)help the weak and ^(G)remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed ^(H)to give than to receive.’”

Paul and Barnabas Separate

³⁶ And after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit ^(A)the brothers ^(B)in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” ³⁷ Now Barnabas wanted to take with them ^(C)John called Mark.
