^4 (A)Do we have no ^[a]right to eat and drink?

^6 (A)Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when ^(B)we might have ^(C)made demands ^(D)as apostles of Christ.

⁸ nor did we eat anyone’s bread ^[a]free of charge, but worked with ^(A)labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, ⁹ not because we do not have ^(B)authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.

^7 (A)And remain in the same house, ^(B)eating and drinking such things as they give, for ^(C)the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our ^(A)labor and toil; for laboring night and day, ^(B)that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

Be Generous and Do Good

^6 (A)Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.

⁷ Who ever ^(A)goes to war at his own expense? Who ^(B)plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who ^(C)tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

⁸ Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? ⁹ For it is written in the law of Moses, ^(D)“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about? ¹⁰ Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that ^(E)he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. ^11 (F)If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? ¹² If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more?

^(G)Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things ^(H)lest we hinder the gospel of Christ. ^13 (I)Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the ^(J)temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar? ¹⁴ Even so ^(K)the Lord has commanded ^(L)that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.

¹⁰ nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; ^(A)for a worker is worthy of his food.

Honor the Elders

¹⁷ Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine. ¹⁸ For the Scripture says, ^(A)“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, ^(B)“The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
